Star Command (I phone and Android)
« on: September 11, 2011, 02:42:42 pm »

Guys, I cam across this little gem about a week or so ago. It's still in development, slated for fall release on Iphone and Android.

It's incredible is what it is, it takes the best parts of theme hospital and smooshes them together with X-com AND star trek.

Basically you make a vessle, lead it through it's course on the galaxy, and determine what (from what I can tell) it specializes in. You can upgrade rooms, etc "a-la theme hospital", and apparantly hire new people aboard your ship. Seriously every time I see the game I experience some sort of light depression due to the fact that it isn't out yet. GOOD THING THERE IS A FFFFFFF)&$)(·$ING spam bot selling anti depressants, now I can keep myself doped up on happy pills until it comes out!

They have a nice kickstart here
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/starcommand/star-command-sci-fi-meets-gamedev-story-for-ios-an?ref=live

and here is their home page

http://www.starcommandgame.com/

Anyways, I am rooting for them, unique experiences like this one are very rare, and BADLY need, ESPECIALLY on phones!

Nice to see they've hit their kickstarter goal and then some already. Still tempted to get in on it when I get paid.

Read the article about this on IndieGames.com when it was about 3/4th of the way funded. Figured what the hell and kicked in 25 bucks. Glad to see it met its goal, and hopefully they end up with a little more to help them along. Looks to be an awesome project.

What? 20,000$ for an already almost finished iphone game?? and people actually paid!?

" - Hire extra talent for things like music, sound effects and additional platform development like Android
  - Promote and market to help sell the game and fund future expansions and possible sequels
  - Localize the game to other regions like Europe and Asia"

Since when does marketing considered a kick start for a project? since when does funding of possible sequels does?

dont get me wrong, if people want to pay their hard earned money, by all means, do pay for what ever you want to throw your money on, but i think kickstarter should really be focused on interesting projects which needs funding to be complete, not to fund translations which cost what? 50$ for a language?

Yes, of course, it only costs $50 to hire someone to re-write and recode a game for each language. Music and sound effects are a costly part of production too, not to mention coding and debugging additional entire OS version, and sequels and expansions, and the people who donated /get all that stuff for free/ instead of having to buy every DLC and expansion and whatever. That's wages for at least a half dozen people needed, plus software licensing, etc.

Kickstarter is not just for projects that are just getting started despite the name, it's for crowd-sourcing funding.  This is a promising and interesting project that seems to have good reasons listed for why they need the money.

There was a duplicate but I think it's been deleted already. You can't really be blamed for it though, the forum server's been a bit unresponsive the last couple of days which has caused a few double posts here and there.

Yeah but I got a reprimand nontheless. I was a bit befuddled, as I didn't ACTUALLY double post, and toady knows I don't normally misbehave... normally..

Just teasing, looks fun. I'll check it out later when I got some more time, might pledge even. Looks good.
