Starcraft 1 Streaming: Match 1 Uploaded
« on: September 11, 2011, 11:41:33 am »

That one game, from 1998, that is an official sport in South Korea.

Anyway, I've been playing a few skirmishes with a friend of mine over LAN every week, and considering that I like watching SC1 matches, I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in seeing the matches we play. I wouldn't be "streaming" per say, since it will be saved to my computer and then uploaded onto Youtube using Hypercam.

However, I am somewhat better than my friend, meaning I win almost every time, and I would consider us adequately skilled. We don't turtle and mass wraiths, but we don't do heavy micro or use late game special units, like the science vessel, often. Also, I don't have a microphone, so I won't be commentating, not that I would be good at it anyway. I'll add a summary after the video. Finely, I'll be uploading replays of the matches, so that I can speed it up. I assume most people would prefer it this way anyway.

So, would anyone be interested in this? I won't be able to do B12 matches due to my lag, though if you guys want enough, I could borrow my friend's laptop and head on over to a place with free wireless, like Mcdonalds.

Match 1: Orb (T) vs. Rory (P)

This is mostly a test to see if I can actually upload a match. This is the last match we had, nothing spectacular or long. Its quick and to the point.

I have SC1, although it's been a good while since I last RTS'd, and made progress with SC1 as well.

However, I'm always up for a match whenever available. Don't expect me to be all that skilled though.

Age of Empires II and Galactic Battlegrounds (Star Wars Age of Empires), however, I'm re-sharpening my edge, and am getting back into the groove of.

Aside all that, I don't mind watching a few matches play out.

Alright, first match is up. Its mostly a test to see if I can actually upload matches and so on.

Comments on my strategies and failures are welcome. Always looking to improve.

I took the AVI file created by Hypercam and shrunk it by using Windows Movie Maker. Is there a way I could make it an even smaller file size, without sacrificing quality?

Have you ever heard of ChaosLauncher? It's a way to allow you to play Starcraft (and probably Diablo) windowed.

Just something to toss in.

Science Vessel is my favorite starcraft unit.  Can't believe you don't use it.  It's worthwhile for the mobile detection alone and EMPs are just boss.

Is this because it wasn't full screen in Youtube(black edges)? Or is it really just "tossed in"?

But no, I haven't heard of it. I might give it a try. Not sure what I could use it for, though, except for the full screen issue. I guess I could have used it if I was having issues recording, but I'm not. Another possibility is that it might reduce file size, but I would get less detail, correct? Oh well, just speculating.

Science Vessel is my favorite starcraft unit.  Can't believe you don't use it.  It's worthwhile for the mobile detection alone and EMPs are just boss.

Well, to put it simply, my friend rarely uses abilities(his micromanagement isn't good enough for them, yet). I saw him using burrowing a few games ago, and hes been using scanning more frequently, so hes getting there. He also Stim packs and so on. I, on the other hand, never get to the point where I would need a science vessel.  Someone is pretty much the winner by the time high tech is reached, and simply rushing them with your higher economy is sufficient enough.

Finely, we mostly do Zerg vs Terran, with myself being Zerg, so the science vessel has limited use. Zerg have no cloaked units or shields, besides their burrowers of course.

------------

I've been thinking of instead of having the B12 matches be a somewhat rare occurrence, to instead be every weekend. You can either challenge myself or my friend, and I'll upload the replay within a few days. Thoughts? I'll still be uploading Rory and I's skirmishes, but I'd figure the B12 matches would be special rounds, or something.

Eventually, if this gets enough interest, I might do some sort of tournament. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

I'll need to play some Starcraft again and get some practice before I join in any matches. It's been a good while, and I have plenty of rust to break off of my skills.

Namely, getting the hang of certain special units and knowing how to make the most of my areas. I'm too used to playing the computer.

Irradiate is also pretty good.  Basically a 1 hit kill at long range against most units and it does splash damage to boot.

Eeheehee Irradiate. I miss SC1. Especially stim firebats, they were so godly. Zerg melted like butter under a laser.
