I press 'i' to bring up the inventory, and it gives me a huge list of stuff, all labeled with letters. In the wiki it says that I can use 'd' to drop weapons, 'g' to get them, 'r' to remove weapons, and so. Then there's 'I' to interact with stuff in the inventory, too. But if I press d or g or r then it just shows me whatever is labeled in the inventory under those letters. So how do I actually select an item in inventory so I can drop it or remove it or whatnot?

Ah, it means you press 'd' or 'g' to drop or get items, before you open your inventory.
So just press 'd' and it will open up your inventory menu, and THEN you press the letter corresponding to whichever item you wish to drop.
