It just struck me that, while right now we're in the midst of strategy games being made into FPS's, we have seen one FPS turning into an RTS.

I'm talking about Halo: Wars, of course. Obviously that was a failure of sorts too, but you can't say they haven't tried. And it was the folks at Ensemble studios behind it (They couldn't have had a finer team, in my opinion). However, the development process was handled incredibly poorly, where they basically told Ensemble to stop all work on whatever it was they were doing that meant something, and told them to make the Halo RTS, then after some restructuring in management, decided that Ensemble wasn't worth keeping.

I'm not sure what this was intended to add to the discussion, other than to muse about other such possibilities, or bring up any additional examples, if they exist.

100,000 loyal customers who play the game for years, and buy your next title too because years of fun is great, or 1,000,000 random joes who play it for weeks, then buy your next title because weeks of fun is still great.  Yeah, you have to be crazy to design for the small group of loyalists.  Remember that most great artists and writers are crazy.

Does it really? If anything, I thought it made it awfully easy to stealth/melee your way through the game even with the annoying energy system.

Excited they picked up on the obvious desire for something closer to Syndicate's roots. It'll be interesting to see who ends up making that one.

Yep, Paradox officially took over Stardock as the PC beloved game company, just after that interview with fred wester, C.E.O at paradox took place in RPS... i remember the days when it used to be blizzard.

Lately I'm trying to avoid putting crowns on any dev's heads. It's just a recipe for disappointment and dethroning somewhere down the line.

at least the new jagged alliance game are still RTS(im not holding out a lot of hope it ,Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge was worse that ja2 .13)

Jagged Alliance is a turn based series. You would not believe how shitty it would get in real time.
