I was building a two-story tower. I built two walls on the outer edge (there was a wall under each of them, of course) but then I deconstructed them. After I did this I could not place a wall on either space.

There are some fortifications on the wall under the planned building spaces. Could this be causing the error?

Was there a fortification there the first time you placed them?

Not when I first placed them, I believe. It was carved after.

I've got the same problem in 33g - I deconstructed a wall then tried to reconstruct it of another material while the rock from the former wall was still in place.  It would not reconstruct even after removing the rock and suspending/resuming or even cancelling and resstarting the construction.  Other sections of the same wall reconstructed just fine.  This was a rough alunite wall that I was trying to switch over to gabbro.  The job was generated and appeared on the J screen, but no dwarf would take it - and "no job" masons would jump on other constructions.

Oddly enough I tried it again 2 years later but with blocks and this time it took.
