Hey all, I'm looking for strategy (real time or turn based, I don't care ) games with very different races.
Examples that pop up in my mind are:

Sword of the Stars (Best example)
Warcraft 3
Universe at War: Earth Assault
Dominion 3

Are there any games out there which allows for truely diverse races? Instead of only a +5% to colonising, -5% to space combat?

Distant worlds does it pretty well with the intelligent, reliable, ect, attributes.  Also the racial tech makes them feel pretty different from one another.  Of course your empire almost always ends up a homogenous melting pot of every thing in the galaxy after awhile.....

C&C have very diverse 'races' (especially Red Alert 2)

I recommend Battle for Middle Earth 2 as well, great game!

Achron fits the bill as well.

Sins of a Solar Empire, which incidentally also does a pretty good job of turning multisystem space strategy into a RTS.

Yea, playing MoO2 gave me this itch. I'll try to find a double disc box for MoO3, but that means I'd have bought that game twice. I also own it on steam

The rest are all games that I've played, apart from Sins of a Solar Empire, which I really should give a go

C&C: Tiberian Sun has always been a favorite of mine. It might be tough to track down a disc, and you'll probably have to use a CD key generator, but it is well worth it.

Actually, on second thought I seem to recall the dev hosting free DL links for a lot of early C&C games on the official site, you might be able to find it and Red Alert there.

Obligatory Battle for Wesnoth mention, though I felt some of the campaigns were hit or miss. Also if you're willing to track down some mods/custom units, Total Annihilation was pretty diverse. Check the Spring project for user-created content.

There was a 4x space game where you could play as a race of space dragons among other things, don't remember the name though.

The one game which I absolutely love to the max for this is Fall from Heaven II, the mod for Civ 4. I'd recommend it strongly, and there are also a few different modmods for it which change stuff in addition to the already diverse races.
