Cats aren't treated as "real" pets.
« on: November 10, 2006, 05:15:00 pm »

Cats are thrown in the nearest refuse pile or chasmed when they die. Then the owner is "forced to endure the decay of a pet". But there is no way to bury cats!

Are you sure it was the same cat?

No, but seriously, are you?  The cats that aren't pets will get chasmed or thrown into refuse piles.  Either way, if you leave a pet outside to rot (whether in a graveyard pile or in a refuse pile), it'll get noticed by its former master, although I still don't understand why it should be the government's responsibility to bury pets (outside of the concern regarding smell).

Do you have coffins, set for burial?  Pets go in them, just like dwarves do.

Allow me to rephrase. It's not that pets can't be buried, it's that catscan't be buried.

For example, I once had a cat who killed a frogman and thus gained a name. But when it died, it was thrown into the refuse pile, not the graveyard. I even had a grave all set for  it, and set to burial, and it was ignored.

Later, when a pet dog died, a empty grave I had assigned for burial was used to bury it.

I have whole pages of dead cats in the unit list, many of which were pets. None of them were given graves. But the single dog that died got a grave all to it's own.

Yeah, this is a known problem with the way cat adoptions work in general.  It needs to tie into the regular pet system more closely.
