Yoink...
Spoiler: Map of the Area (click to show/hide)
You are heading more towards the Kovan than away from it..

Also, the females will be uncooperative in deliberate efforts for the benefit of your tribe. Remember that these are Almache women captured in the fall.

---
El-effhichen...

Almache/Kovan are part of the Daluche, which your !xa!xo' would be part of. So yea, !xa!xo' is a little unusual of a name.

Children, like the herd, need adequate control points or face a steep mortality cliff. Most children are under the Chief's direct care, as they are orphans and the tribe is organized in a Patriarchal sort of way. That means unwed females stay under their daddy's direct supervision, and the Chief is the daddy surrogate. Your tribe has 2 infants and 2 toddlers. These are the only people that require control points. It's the same system as evacuating the children when attacked, so Teens provide control points. This means control of the whole gaggle can be accomplished by the chieftain. In reality since the infants have mothers, it's only the toddlers that require extra care, and the children and teens require instruction by the Shaman. Being able to speak the language IS a requirement for toddlers or having teen helpers, but besides that there is no skill levels. Part of being the appropriate race. So yea, there is greater worry over the Herds than there is over the children. Especially since spring is breeding season and your herds are about to get significantly bigger...
Part of a shaman's responsibility would be taking care of the kids (because your behavior so far makes me think this would be a traditional role for your tribe.) That instruction IS important for the long-term survival of the tribe, as it gives the base skills for your tribe. If it started slacking off, I'd have to consider how to deal with your basic tribal skill level. I assume it's easily handled though as long as you are in direct contact with the tribe. Nothing in Tack's orders makes me think he can't keep educating the kids and accomplish all 3 priorities.

The El Effichen are patriarchial. You can't really be sexist with them. In fact, you'll probably have trouble with other people if you suddenly start letting your wife tend the herd or do anything that requires them to leave the communal yurt.

For the El Effichen travel, Your chief made promises for the next summer meetup. As such, Spring travel time is spent heading there. Any other request will be refused.

NRDL, you have Two spears. I need to update the OP showing appropriate items. I'll get on that now.

Thanks, Kogan.  And the women are hostile and uncooperative?

...

I'm not really sure how to deal with this...

Offer the hides to the collective tribal holdings (the chieftain?) in exchange for sheep (as many as possible)
Assist the other hunters, using my superior herding abilities
Look after the herd in free time

(@NRDL: No, he means mine, since I captured them from Almache. :P)

Mafun, realising the captured females of the tribe were really uncooperative b****es, thinks quickly and weaves together a long chain-like rope out of the vines he uses for basket making. The rope is woven to slip around the necks of each woman in single-file, and Mafun tells one warrior to lead them from the front of the line.
Even if they attempt to run away, the restrictive rope will make them rather easy to catch, whilst still allowing them to do their foraging. Also, if they're getting away, someone simply needs to grab it and they start choking themselves...
Whilst travelling, Mafun will attempt to win their confidence whilst foraging with them, talking to them about stuff like where they came from, taking their mind off their situation. The other half of the time he will hunt with the men not busy guarding the females.

(There, is that nasty enough to work? )

Well, to be honest I was looking for something like "Assigns a guard to watch the females while they forage." I assume as long as they are actively guarded they won't be able to easily escape. But yea, this works.

Well, there's the guy holding the 'rope'. It should make his job easier, though.

Thanks heaps for that information Kogan. i love knowing the effects of anything particularly stupid which I've chosen to do, before they're set in stone.

I've updated my turn accordingly.

Oh gosh, me and my choice of words...
No, your women can leave the Yurt. They have to while it's packed up and being carried, after all. I mean that jobs that are in or directly around it would be their jobs. Weaving, for example. Or tending children. Or mending the Yurt. Or things like that. Things that take place away, like hunting and herding and foraging, those would be male roles.
Teaching children is in proximity of the yurt. It's sort of necessary for a woman to take a teaching role for other women to pass on those particular skills of your tribe. There's enough "free population" that I abstract it, but if you want your wife to take that role that's fine. Problem is she doesn't have the same cultural upbringing. Her upbringing is as a Kodana slave. They do bring one unique skill to the tribe, but it isn't something the tribe currently uses or that I see it using in the future.
Her name seems suitable to me, but just about any name is acceptable. I imagine if it's different than the norm then there's some reason for it that may or may not eventually come up.

And Yoink, you are correct. Such detail does mean that it'll take fewer people to guard probably. It certainly won't be making up a guarding method I think he'd do and comparing it to escape efforts I think they'd do for sure. That makes it much easier for me to find out if they even dare to make the attempt. :)
A general "One guy guards" would result in them attempting to escape I think, though I haven't made any checks or compared the situation and determined if the guard is particular vigilant or anything. So yea, more detail is better, even though it probably inches this thread in directions that aren't so good. Them Mokoli are determined to get me banned!

Except I got my wife before we'd met the Kodana, so I had assumed she was a native. Because, y'know, I don't know anything about this particular tribe's history, having only joined it a year ago, so I figured having the wife teach the children would fill in those gaps.
Which does help if my wife has a name-change different to this tribe's practices. I mean, I'm not from 'round here.
Also, can I make up a gigantic ceremony for the spring ritual? pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?

And you didn't put in the 'some of the actions mentioned here are barbaric blahblahblah happened in history blahblahblah needed for relevance blahblahblah fictional society' disclaimer in the OP?

Right. I would have known that when I set the name, but seeing as I don't have the file open right now. Yea, you are correct. She's El clan as are you, so she knows what's up. Maybe Tribal details are a little hazy, but the Clans are all similar in nature.
And yea, feel free to make up rituals and stuff.

I like it actually. Hopefully a morale booster since there hasn't been anything too bad happening since the start of the game.
