Elias Finch, gentleman scoundrel and one of the top investors of The Grand Artifact Company, could not help but frown as the clatter of noise from a nearby alleyway reached his ears, though the resultant droop in his otherwise illustrious mustache was rather undignified. "I say," he called out, putting on a show for the rather dainty woman who hung on his arm, "stop making such a clatter!"
The response was a mix between a hiss and a growl; guttural, abrasive, and more than a little uncouth. The Lady gasped. With a sigh, Elias untangled his arm and hefted his cane, stepping into the shadows. He was expecting a trubbish, or some low-town punk hopped up on the local team's latest concoction. That was not what he found.
Looking up from the overturned trash can to the astonished gentleman, the small girl hissed once more, her eyes betraying a feral glint.
Nobody is really sure just how young Ruby is, but most people are certain that she is no older than nine and no younger than six. Similarly, nobody is really sure where her parents got off to, or how she ended up roaming the alleys of Davenport. What is known is that when she was found she was in the protection of a small family of pokemon, and was much younger than she is now. While Elias Finch took the liberties of "driving away" her "family" (they made for a fine rug in his summer home) whilst adopting her, he found it quite impossible to separate her from one in particular for even a moment. Regardless, Elias quickly took to hiring the best tutors, psychologists, and researchers that money could by in the hopes of bringing her back into the world of humanity despite her tenacious clinging to her companion and its ways...all to settle a bet.
While they made much progress (Ruby now occasionally walks upright, and has a fairly expansive vocabulary), it ultimately proved futile. She simply refused to become any more "civilized". At wits end with the girl, and realizing that the company in which he was heavily invested could likely make use of someone of her particular talents, Elias was quick to volunteer Ruby for the latest expedition, utilizing his extensive bankroll to ensure that they would not reject his offer.
Ruby is not included in the company health plan, she receives no pay, and is only vaguely aware of the goals at hand. Her security badge is chewed up at the edges, and she has no interest in the contests or gyms of the region (Unless they strike her as being particularly FUN). Nevertheless, the wild child will no doubt prove herself to be a valuable member of the team, befriending what wild pokemon are too powerful, or too tedious, to fight.A.)
