.....Artifact. Is nickel a good material for edge weapons? How can you tell? Also, I love Haunted biomes. Zombies make every migrant wave FUN

Somebody in their sig has a list of non-standard metals sharpness. Also, you can check the raws for the edge rating of any metal in the game.

Nickel is pretty meh for edged weapons, and worse than silver for blunt.

It's bad: instal it in a weapon trap in the dining hall so that it counts as furniture and increases room value.

I'd put it in a weapon trap outside your gate and give it a chance to redeem itself. My artifact giant silver axe blade has killed 2 goblins and a dwarf who fell unconscious on top of it.

I'm playing "Easy Mode;" I've modded dwarves to require neither drink nor food. I may put it into a Noble's room, though. Or perhaps the main waiting area.

Doesn't it get bonuses to hit because it is an artifact though?

They have a 3x multiplier to chance to hit. But it doesn't matter if you have 100% accuracy if you aren't capable of hurting anything.

That 3x to hit is also not as impressive as it seems, as masterwork has 2x to hit.  And in the arms of anyone skilled, they pretty much already have 100% hit ratio.  The ultimate effect is that artifact weapons should always be considered normal weapons.  If it's a steel artifact, treat it like a steel weapon and equip it.  If it's a copper sword artifact, treat it like a copper sword and don't equip that useless piece (unless copper is the best you've got).

Don't listen to those elves. It's an artifact, the lifework of a legendary weaponsmith. It deserves to taste blood and every metal weapon is enough to cut weak goblin flesh. You probably have plenty of masterwork steel weapons anyway for your rank and file dwarves.
If you're paranoid, use this weapon to execute POWs in the name of Armok. Just don't use it for a purpose which a decorated statue of elves buring to death would suffice.

Did somebody just rule 34 two veins of metal?

It sounds festive enough to be used by a Captain of the Guard though. That's what I do with all my artifact weapons and armor that isn't good enough to be used in active duty(although to comment on that "screw copper artifacts", even copper chops off limbs at a decent rate when wielded by a skilled soldier). Artifact thongs? Congrats Urist, looks like your Captain's outfit just got another swanky piece of clothing added to it, wear that spiked thing with pride!

If the 3x applies to traps as well, then the "a skilled dwarf always hits" argument doesn't apply there, so I'd say it's a good candidate for a weapon trap.

Your choice. I might, but probably weapon trap.
