Tibia - Rat selling simulator MMO edition with sprinkles on top
« on: September 05, 2011, 11:56:19 am »

What is this and why do I care?
--
Well you see fellow dwarven warrior, Tibia is this old MMO I used to play a long time ago, and felt that it would be fun to get back into, but playing alone is boring, right? yes, yes it is.

What do you do?
--
Well you do a lot, there's cave exploring, fighting shit, writing papers, crafting, stealing, you can move boxes and shit around to climb into places you shouldn't be, like roofs and buildings, that's always fun. And there's a lot more after that, you can even go fishing anywhere there's water.

Well gee that sounds like fun but seriously, pictures because you suck at writing OP's.
yeah I'll probably write more later when I actually get back into playing this and see what's new and such.
--

Oh and did I mention that you can light almost anything on fire? especialy those barrels and boxes you climb on, so don't get yourself stuck.

Currently we're playing in OPTIONAL PVP, because I don't remember how PVP works in tibia and I'm pretty sure last I remember it was a huge gank fest in some places.

People to annoy, err play with:
(ingame name) -- (worldname) -- (forum name)
Korugog Mcsaint -- Astera  -- (that's me)

Memorable places and things: Rookguard (orwhateverthefuckit'sspelled) :place you start out, it's basicaly the tutorial area, but it's so huge that I advise you play there for a good while to get all the benifits of it, there's a lot there.
Caves: with simulated light you'll need a torch or something, beware, they burn out and you'll be left in the dark, any fire works for light.
Sewers: like big stinky caves, full of deadly little things.
Linux version: that's right, there's a linux version.

I play adventure mode because it's hard and when I play, I am too.
I believe we're talking about full scale colonisation here.  You don't just leave all your shit in the van when you move house.

It looks straight out of Ultima 7 to me. Now I want to go play that again!

Tibia! <3
I love playing on the traditional pvp servers, the ones where you get marked with a skull if you attack.

Basically, Tibia is an oldschool mmo in which you grind grind and grind some more for experience. There's not much skill required or anything, just a lot of patience.

The thing that sets Tibia apart however, is the cruel and harsh (!!FUN!!) world. Dying is horrible in this game, as you lose 10% of your TOTAL experience, not your current experience for your next level. Yes, that means you could lose levels if you die in this game. Not only do you lose your experience, you also lose your backpack and have a chance of dropping pieces of your equipment.

And, for those naieve people who think the world revolves around love, people are DICKS. Seriously, I used to play this game around 7 years ago when I was 12 and you had people acting all nice and all, saying that they'll help you with the game. "Oh how nice of them!".
They show you a good ''training spot'' and proceed to decorate the cave with your blood.
Also, anyone from any level can attack you. As a level 24, you might be jumped by a level 256 (speaking out of experience here) guy who is helping his buddy level and frankly, he doesn't want you leveling there.
This kind of world makes you a very paranoid and careful player and it's a great feeling when you're progressing. You might even join a guild and be protected by them.

I haven't played in a long while though, I've gotten sick of grinding but this game has a truely unique feeling. I really recommend it :)

I played this long time ago and have meant to start again on multiple occasions, but never got to it. Just as a word of warning: Tibia is a grinding hell! Still it is rather charming and fun nonetheless and last time I played, there were rather huge* number of mature and friendly players. I got never very far on the game, but as you level up the game get's more and more competitive, which means that you will get PK'ed more and more.

Of course there are also those twenty-something-leveled assholes who kill newbies for fun, but at least when I last played, screaming some help got some high-leveled players rush to beat the attacker.

Hmm... Maybe I should start this again. Is there a guild/clan-system? If so; Bay12-guild!

*Means huge percentage, not number of players.

I usually get real sick of grinding, but I might be interested nonetheless if there's a proper Bay12 guild.

^I'd actually be willing to start playing again. I've got a level twenty-something (I think 26?) sorcerer and a level 12 or something druid. Me and a friend were planning on hunting really strong creatures with summons plus healing runes and spells. I got bored of leveling my druid though :P

I remember watching my sister play this years ago, and thinking that it looked much worse than Ultima Online (which I was playing).

I no longer wish to play this.

Man I used to play this aaaaageeeesss ago, wow. If I recall even back then it hadn't been updated in years, maybe I'm making that up though. Still had fun with it, dunno if I'll get back in though, I remember the tutorial being particularly lengthy and taking several days.

If I get premium I'll make a bay12 guild.

So there's a premium. What is it and what don't people get for not being one?

The last thing I probably want to start right now is another MMO, especially a grindy one, but a new world to play around with alongside some Bay12ers is alluring.

Access to Premium Areas
As a premium player you can travel to the mysterious island Edron and the continents Darama and Zao that are looming large to the east of the main continent. Also the legendary Shattered Isles in the South and the Ice Islands in the North are definitely worth a visit. Explore huge new areas and dungeons you have never seen before. Visit new cities! Do new quests! Battle new monsters! And on top of it all, a further premium area is available on Rookgaard. You will find that as a premium player there is simply more to see and more to do.
 Transportation
All premium player can use the Tibian transport system. There are ships and magic carpets available for a comfortable journey. For a small fee our captains will bring you to all cities and even to some remote islands. Premium time will surely save you some long and tiresome marches.
 Mounts
Premium players can not only show off with outfit addons which they can earn in the game by solving specific quests, they can also pose on one of numerous mounts that can be unlocked in the game by brave adventurers. Mounts are not only an eyecatcher, they also grant your character a useful speed boost.
 Improved Login
Of course, when the rush is on premium players have an advantage when it comes to logging in. As a premium player you will be able to log in on all game worlds even if the regular player limit has already been reached. Play Tibia whenever you like!
 Cool New Spells
The mighty wizards from the magic guild of Edron have developed new spells. Cast haste on your character and run away from your enemies! Fry your opponents with the mighty Hell's Core! From useful everyday spells to powerful offensive magic, premium players simply have more spells to cast!
 Character Promotions
Premium characters of level 20 or higher can be promoted to a veteran rank which results in several important advantages over regular characters. To name but a few, promoted characters regenerate mana, soul points and hit points faster than regular players, and they lose fewer experience points and skills upon death. Bring out the best in your characters and promote them today!
 Improved Stamina
Only premium players have improved stamina which will temporarily gain them 50% more of the regular experience points for killing monsters. So premium players can raise in levels even quicker!
 Renting Houses
Premium players are allowed to rent houses or flats in which your characters can recover from the hardships of an adventurer's life. Furnish your new home with all kinds of furniture and impress your fellow Tibians with your stately home! Invite your friends and have parties! You will find that having a home of your own is a rewarding experience you would not want to miss once you have had it!
 Guild Leadership
Why serve in heaven when you can rule in hell? As a premium player you can found a guild of your own. Choose your own cool name and logo, recruit followers and rent a nice guildhall! As a premium player you will be able to build up the guild of your dreams. Make a name for yourself as the leader of a powerful Tibia guild!
Access to a Premium-Only Game World
Dreaming of a world with a manageable community? The world of Premia might be just what you are looking for! A world that is exclusively reserved to premium players, Premia has fewer inhabitants than other worlds. If it is stress-free hunting and relaxed adventuring you want, you should come over to Premia today!
 Improved Chat Options
Premium players are allowed to open up private chat channels to which they can invite their friends. Also, if you are a premium player, your VIP list will be greatly enlarged in size. With up to 100 players on your list you will always know when your friends and foes are online!
 Larger Depots
As a premium player you can store even more items in your depots. The extended limit is 2000 items per depot.

It's nothing that drasticaly makes any difference anyway.

The tutorial took me about 5 minutes, the new person area may take a few days simply because you have to reach level 8 to leave.

Premium account allows you to visit more places using the boat and has a couple of other things like being able to hire a house and founding a guild. It's really easy to play without, although the bonusses are really nice.

Comes with that, it's only like 5 euros a month or something :P

Yeah, that was it. Not the tutorial itself but the tutorial island.
