Most Online Ever: 2228 (December 08, 2010, 10:20:01 am)

I'm curious, why was that the day the most people were ever online?

I do not know, but I would guess that it was a new Dwarf Fortress release.

I'm pretty sure that was the day Dwarf Fortress made it to the front page of Reddit.

This. It was the Big Update when DF changed massively. The influx of traffic actually broke the site.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

I'm guessing this. DF 2010 was released in April.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

It really was April? Wow. I guess that's what I was remembering. Unless it was the... No it can't be the November release I remembered thinking about it. I was talking with a friend that was away during November when I downloaded it.

Definitely sounds like Reddit or something then.

I think April Fool's Day was the 2010 release date.

Right, you hear the most ever question come up a lot around here, and the first answer is always DF:2010/media site reporting on said fact. Which is wrong.

For December 08? I dunno. We knew it was coming 'soon' so people were checking a lot. But that is about it, I don't even remember the traffic even being that bad.
