Kind of how I found out about DF too. I was like "What's another game I can cut off a guy's hand and chop him in half while he stumbles around?"

Bam. DF

Sadly no, but you can -BEAT- people to death with everything from severed heads to drinking mugs

Also, can play as a Dwarf

never quite finished this game. Got quite far as the dorf tho, could never get far as the Barbarian. The blood effects were great. Was great fun watching a globlin stagger round armless.

Man I was just thinking of reinstalling this and wondering if it would run on windows 7. Such a great game, even now. Had amazing fire and water effects for its time. Also the only one of its kind for the PC, sadly. Well, possibly Die by the Sword is similar, haven't played that one. And to answer some questions:

No, it's not free. No, it's not awkward, in fact it's freaking great. Yes, it's kind of like Demon's Souls because DS has to have taken ideas from Blade of Darkness.

Also best PC hack'n'slash forever! And Logrin, I'm almost 100% certain you can cut stuff off of your enemies while they're alive. Well, they DO die as a result, but you can throw their limbs at other enemies, so it's all jovial family fun.

And it's known simply as Edge of Darkness in some places, so if you want to try it out but can't find it, search for this.

And I couldn't finish it either  :-[

Played as the Barbarian, got to the final boss fight, hadn't done something important beforehand and couldn't fight the enemies to do it at that point, and kind of gave up. I will beat the bastard someday, I promise!

The barbarian is the most difficult ((and awesome)) character in the game. Pure offense. He lacks the Armor of the knight or speed of the Amazon....but he has a sword made out of a shark in the end game.

Also, find all the secrets and he gets a 2-handed sword that can SHOOT OUT FRIGGING SONIC WAVES FROM ACROSS THE ROOM. Nothing like killing 3 dark knights at once without even touching them....

the main problem ive found with installing this on a new machine is that on radoen cards in particular it runs at about 20x speed. You can solve this by switching on lots of other resource greedy programs in the background.

Yes. Demon's Souls. And the up-coming Dark Souls, which I heard rumours might even be on the PC, in which case I shall cry sweet tears of victory even though I'd never meet the minimum requirements.

Game ran too fast for me at first two. I was using a laptop.

Two ways that might work - Go to power settings and choose always on or try to locate the Game's EXE file and right click for properties. Run in Windows98/ME mode..

Also, this site is pretty much the best place for Severance info, and some cool mods like heavy armor for the dwarf, medium armor for the barbarian and Amazon.

So anyone want to give me a hint as to playing it on a laptop running win7 with a Mobility Radeon HD4570?

I really freaking love this game and would kill a moderate amount of men to play it again, but don't have access to winXP at the moment. Both Logrin's ideas don't work for me :(

I have no idea if it works with win7, but you might give this a try. It throttles down CPU usage on individual processes, like Severance's. Just throttle it back until it plays reasonably.
