._. Well, that wasn't what I was expecting to happen. We should probably claim we were joking when/if he comes back with a mob and point out the ridiculousness of robbing someone with a stick.

Leave the worst book ever on the counter with an apology note (sure there'd be paper and something to write with in the restaurant), say you gave him the book as a sign of friendliness, help yourself to free cutlery and keep it in your bag, also any valuable truffle of tubs of cavier. Or sperm-whale vomit which is used in expensive dishes and worth more than gold by weight and yes, people do eat it

Now that the restaurant guy is gone, you can be what you've always wanted to be: a land pirate. You go on a stabbing spree stabbing everything you can stab. The diner siting in the corner looks unamused.

You grab a nearby writing utensil and scrawl an apology note on a napkin along with the Worst Book Ever. Then you grab a nearby eating utensil. Then you grab another eating utensil until all the eating utensils you can find are in your backpack. You briefly look for some whale vomit but find none. 

You do find a bag of coins behind the counter and steal it since you couldn't find any sperm whale vomit. What a ripoff. What kind of a restaurant doesn't even have sperm whale vomit?
The diner sees you and smirks. What is your response?

Slowly, you make your way across the restaurant towards the Mysterious Diner Person while making stabbing motions with the SSS, eventually ending right next to him. You close in on him trying to make him as uncomfortable as possible, which isn't too hard. The Mysterious Diner appears to be about 50 years old. He is wearing a dark, dirty cloak. You notice a bright jade ring on his right ring finger. He has a large scar on his right cheek.

"Hahahah why are you carrying a stick and stealing from restaurants? Where are you from?"
He invites you to sit across from him.

Go ahead and sit down. Say that we were in a ship wreck not too long ago, and might have hit our head.

You sit down across the Mysterious Diner.
"I was a sailor on a merchant ship. I was in a shipwreck not too long ago and might have injured my head. Where am I?"

The Mysterious Diner responds, "This is the city of Newport. Traders from all over the world come here. You probably were traveling on a merchant ship. Go to the marketplace. They might know more about your situation. You should consider getting a better weapon while your there." Once again he laughs at your SSS. "It is getting dark and I must go. I have work to do."

He tells you that the road from the restaurant leads directly to the marketplace.
