« on: September 02, 2011, 11:15:10 am »

I set up a burrow for someone in my metalcrafting/smelting area, complete with a bed and food, etc. but he just chills in the meeting hall.. doesnt go there. also doesnt perform jobs that i set up at the workshop, and i've removed all other labors/skills from him... still wont go to burrow or use workshop. what gives?

Is he on break?

Is he giving any job cancellation notifications? Sometimes if a dwarf is assigned to a burrow in the middle of a hauling job they'll just stand around confused.

Can he get to the burrow? Could it be closed off or obstructed by a door?

he's in the meeting hall, theres doors in the meeting hall but they're not locked. he's just 'no job' and current activity is no job in dwarf therapist. its just down 2 z levels of stairs and down a hall. other workshops/burrows nearby are working

Is someone else using the workshop?  Check the permissions on the workshop and set it so only he can use it.

try assigning the dwarf to a different burrow, and assigning a dwarf to the burrow you have trouble with. you can see if it's the dwarf that's the problem, or the burrow.

Check his personality, see if he has a tendency to procrastinate.

while I have everyone's attention, is it possible to fall into a well? I've had 2 dwarves (some of my most skilled mind you) randomly drown and when I check where they are its underneath the well in the canal down there. Theres no way to access it, so their corpses just rot there filling my hall with miasma... its hooked up to a powerful water source so getting their bodies is kinda out of the question. basically... do they fall in sometimes or what?

Dwarves never spontaneously fall into a well for no reason.  They can fall into a well if pushed by flowing water, or when dodging an attack.  If you have the well in a meeting area and have a lot of stray animals crowding around it, they can start fighting, resulting in a dwarf dodging into the well.

bingo on the stray animals... is the only way to control that w/ butchering and trapping via kennels? will puppies and cats be trapped via kennels?

Create a pasture zone in an underground room somewhere and assign all your dogs to it, or build a cage and assign them all to the cage.

now having dumping issues... flagged some clothing left behind by a dead dwarf to dump, but it just sits there. also toggled forbid/claim, dwarves seem to not notice?

Check the clothing to see if another dwarf has claimed it.  Owned clothing won't be dumped.  You need to build cabinets in the bedroom of the owner, and he may eventually put it away.
