If you like adventure mode, Khaeros might be up your alley. Though you certainly could be the heroic Knight or Terrible Briggand it's just a viable an option to be a tailor, blacksmith or civil servent. Since the entire "goal" of the game is not nessesarily to re-act to events in the way that most benifits you, but instead in a manner that your character would. It's only an online game, and the entirety of your foes, allies and leaders will be comprised of your fellow players.

What's more, there's no class system. Nothings stopping you from being a cook who knows a bit of swordsplay, or an assassin that gardens to relax....

I had been playing Khaeros near since the very begining, and seen it change drastically over the years. I could tell you some marvelous stories about the most enjoyable times playing it. Like being the worlds most feared and hated mercenary Gilkengen, or the butler to the Lord Magistrate. But in all honesty they would pale in experiencing it for yourself.

Essentially. It's got a mountain of lore from old IG events too. Used to be a collection of competing countries for the different races : The Kindom of Vhaluran ((typical medival deal)), Tyris ((vikings)), The Desert Empire of Zahir((arabian/egyptian-esque)) Azhur ((Aztecs essentially)) Alyria ((your Celts)) and the Nomadic Mhordul who hail from Kar'dath Mal ((your golden horde))

By the time the new map was implemented, The Koen of Tyris married his daughter off to the King of Vhaluran, and the son that came of it ruled both peoples. They then conquered the world and united all peoples under Vhaluranian and Tyrean rule.

By today, the ineffectual successor to the throne was recently assassinated from threats within his very domain. The Mhordul are recovering from their war of independance, and the Society ((church)) that sent heretics to the pyre has crumbled, a new doctorine of ((gasp)) acceptance of other peoples being spread by these new deacons.

Also, combat ((PvP and PvE)) is very customized, and based as much on your skill as your build.

Oh, and did I mention that to an extent, you can permenantly kill or maim other characters ((who agreed to that handicap at character creation for an XP boost)) without their consent? So the element of danger for villan and hero alike is very real.

Also, they have a whole forum -loaded- with role-playing tales. Plenty of those with screen shots.

Here's one that was made BEFORE they changed the forum from a solid black background. Be fore-warned some words are much harder to read as such against the parchment hue.

What's the grind like?
I know that it's RP intensive, but well, knowing what UO is like, there'll also be a lot of dependency on stats, and usually that detracts from the roleplay for me.
