nonexistent items blocking site

So I'm building my first pump stack, and filling in the gaps between the service area and the channels with doors.  When all the doors are done, about a third of them are held open by stones.  I use dfautodump to get rid of the stones, but the doors stay open.  I deconstruct and rebuild the doors, but the dwarves keep cancelling because there are items blocking the site.  The only item on the tiles in question is the floor and the doors themselves.  It's clear, but they keep cancelling. 

So how does one build a pump stack in DF?  Do you use walls instead of doors?  I used the plans on magmawiki but they don't seem to account for dwarven ingenuity in screwing up simple tasks.  Can this one be fixed?

It probably has something to do with dfautodump. I'd try deconstructing (or channeling) the floor. I think a wall will have the same problem as the door if you try to build it there.

Have you tried reloading the map?

Eventually I just deconstructed everything including the inner walls and rebuilt the whole stack.  This time there were no issues.  Unfortunately I thought I could power it with manual labor, but manual power doesn't seem to transmit through the stack.  I checked the cross section with StoneSense and it seems to be built to spec, so it's Water reactor time I guess.

Manual power should transmit exactly the same as waterwheels and windmills. Check the building screen for one of the pumps; what is the total power needed?

Got my reactor complex almost up, but I got a little impatient and let the water in before the last water wheel was built.  Fun happened, but I did have power from multiple reactors for a bit.

But it felt good to actually have machinery for once; I've never used it before, and it now feels like I have a real fortress.  Especially since this is powering a pressurized magmatic superweapon.

Wow....  I've never seen magma move down a channel that fast.  And my FPS just dropped from 80 to 30, though I suppose that's nothing to complain about, since I have 130 dwarves and 80 is damn good for that amount.

It seems the design for the water reactor could be improved by eliminating the diagonals for water flow in the lower level.  It was causing my reactors to choke until I removed it.

Probably not that, if you've followed a decent stack-making description, but I thought I might suggest it anyway.  Just in case.

Probably not that, if you've followed a decent stack-making description, but I thought I might suggest it anyway.  Just in case.

I did make that mistake on my first try, but even after fixing it, manual power wouldn't transmit.  In any case, it's working now, and after much flooding and savescumming I found a way to insert a shutdown mechanism for the reactor complex as well so I could get my FPS back once the magma silo was filled.

So, now I have a 10 Z high silo of magma with an outlet perched over the entrance to the dead-end sea-cliff canyon at the end of which is the entrance to my fort.  As soon as the magma starts flowing it seals off the escape route and any siegers in there will be incinerated.  I also found during testing that 10 Z levels was a bit overkill, as just emptying 3 levels is sufficient to render my fort (as well as 4 or 5 local map tiles) inaccessible to the outside world for the better part of a year.

I had to put connecting canals in the top of the magma sea to avoid depleting it while filling this thing.
