Injured, Unable to stand dwarves don't get taken to the hospital?
« on: September 01, 2011, 11:18:32 am »

Just wanted to check if anyone else experienced this.  I had put in a bug report as well at http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=4850

Basically, I noticed if a dwarf get injured in such a way that they become unable to stand, they don't generate a 'recover wounded' job UNLESS they are also unconcious.  They often don't even try to crawl to the hospital either, and just stand there.  Usually this solves itself when they pass out from exhaustion, but sometimes they are more thirsty than tired and die of dehydration first.  In one current case I even stockpiled some food+drink right under an injured dwarf and he won't even touch it.

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?  If so, does anyone have any workarounds that seem to... work?  I've tried building beds underneath the affected dwarves and designating it a hospital zone, but no dice.

I'd say cause a cave-in right next to the dwarf. With any luck they will get injured enough that they will be hauled off to the stockpile by the dust the cave-in creates. Make sure not to build it right above them though since they would be crushed. Another alternative would be to release an unequipped goblin right next to them and then quickly send your military in to kill the goblin. If you do it right the goblin should have a chance to injure the dwarf triggering recovery but not enough to kill it before it itself is killed.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

OK, that's definitely worth a try.  I think my best bet would be if that knocks him out, since in my experience, if they are:

A. Unable to stand due to a new injury
and
B. Still conscious

They will not be taken to the hospital, or walk there themselves, regardless of the severity of any other injuries they have.  Has anyone else noticed this, or am I the only one who gets this issue?

This has happened to me just recently, a militiadorf had motor and sensory nerves severed in one of his legs, but apparently the wounds aren't being treated. Nor is he being assigned a crutch. In fact, he insists on literally crawling to combat drills.

I'm hoping that some furious dorf crawling into battle with vigor could scare a goblin or two.

Ipslne, if he has good skills you could always make him the leader of a 'training squad.'  I think crutches aren't working right at the moment.
Also, if I understand correctly, that militiadwarf still eats/ drinks, and moves around correctly?  In my case, when injured to where they are unable to stand, they just sit still and do nothing until they either:

A. Pass out from exhaustion and are then immediately taken to the hospital, fed, treated, and then happily crawl around the rest of their life
or
B. Die of thirst before passing out.

I guess I have a bugged game?  Not using any mods, but did set a few options via Lazy Newb Pack...

Crutches are working fine in my game, this one dorf just left the hospital before being diagnosed. Got the announcement, "so-and-so cancels diagnose. Patient not resting."

Oh  :P.  Well I guess dwarves will be dwarves, after all.  I guess the desire to bash goblins trumps self-preservation pretty easily for them.
