Muscles and a way to pass genetic changes to others of the same species. We don't want them to be outdated all the time, do we. For creature actions, look for sources of heat. Move towards the closest one that is smaller then yourself.

The jelly-fish thing would need to be a bit bigger to have muscles?  Wouldn't it?  How many cells wide are those psuedo-tentecles?
Each is only a single cell wide. Actually, I think they themselves are essentially a pairing of only a few specialized cells.

We don't want them to be outdated all the time, do we.
We could just go with the assumption that they all share the same genetics as you- it would be less realistic, but also less complicated.

Wait!

Rather than that, I think I'll just make your population evolve as a unit, rather than your entire species. That way, your population (and others) will slowly grow apart, as they generally do, unless you breed really fast across the whole of the species.

The crystals would only need to be thick enough to form a rigid structure, probably only about the width of an organelle. Once you have structure then you just add depth to increase strength, which, depending upon the crystals involved, should only be a small fraction of the total thickness of the appendage... Bear in mind that muscles require a rigid skeleton to function and are, by definition, the size of a large cell, so would actually be far more dependent upon the organism being larger...

If you had an anchor between two cells on one side, and both cells expanded, then they would forced away from each other by the pressure but be unable to leave the anchor, causing them to fold around in the direction of the anchor, your could use this to create a finger of sorts. If they were connected at two points, one anchor on an edge to provide direction and an anchor at the centre point between cells, it would make for effective contraction also, as reductions in pressure would be transmitted along the centre points. If each cell were encased in a solid shell, of cylindrical form, then the pressure differences would be more efficiently transmitted along the member. The only significant problem that I see is creating flexible anchors that can withstand the forces involved, which could probably be resolved using a toughened membrane...

I think we should focus on things that DON'T require our size to be tremendous, since muscles would be a tad too big for our tendrils I think we should try and get bigger.

Wait, we don't want to be big so we should be bigger? Am I missing something?

At this point, muscles and those crystal things you want are going to look ridiculous on us and might snap the connection between it and the cell.

Therefor we should expand our CELLSIZE in order to compensate for that.

Are you sure we should increase cell size? Not number?

Cause cell size increase is inverse to matter transport efficiency. We might suffocate.

Mmh, you may have a point there. As in I understand roughly 15% of it.

Lets just go ASSIMILATE DNA / miniboss fight

Cells that have grown large enough to fight back, basicly.

...Why would we make cells specifically to fight and presumably eat them? That would be a gross waste of time and resources.

we're not human, after all.
