Well, couldn't we be like a jellyfish and just revert to a polyp-like state after we reach the edge of our maximum possible lifespan? We could bud off like that too, potentially.

On the thought of lifespan: we need to start looking into making Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase, an enzyme that repairs the bits at the end of DNA strands (telomeres) to prevent them from decomposing. If we have that around, and don't die in the near future, we shouldn't have to worry too much about the passage of time and reproduction.

More of the point is that reproduction is extra lives that self-propagate. And i had previously said that our creature is not capable of efficient splitting, due to being multi-cellular. it would leave both halves of the creature vulnerable. I had suggested a sort of reproduction organ to make smaller clones of our creature.

A form of [i think]advanced asexual reproduction would be good at at least this stage of evolution.

This is Dwarf Fortress! If we can chuck magma at innocent wildlife, we can do ANYTHING!

It was at this point that I realised that dwarves are actually the essence of chaos. What else can make perpetual motion machines, recursive statues with more building materials than the average tower and has such a short attention span that a damn fine chair can off-set the death of their entire family.

Plants can clone themselves, I am pretty sure that I have seen whole groves of bamboo shoot up from nothing but a bunch of fragments. I think that cut-in-half-and-get-two is sufficient for us to feel as though we have split. But we can expand by just expanding. The advantage to multiplying is to be redundant, we can be internally redundant too. Having all our components share the same form does create some flaws, but we can wait until we have our L.A.S.E.R.-based internal communication set up and then we can be a hive-mind...

I'm pretty sure that you're a bit more complex than a bit of grass. Y'know, having tons of specialized cells and all. Plants are in an entirely different kingdom.

Where's the report!?,!?
Eat worm buts.

And what's dna storage? Is it parts of our cell or genetic data for later.

The Hydra is a simple animal that reproduces by budding clones on the body. In times of stress/low food, they convert these buds into simple testes/ovaries and release free swimming gametes.

Methinks Vitascinti Cuspis should adopt this.

Why would you want to eat worm buts? But what?

The DNA storage is stored genetic material that you are not currently making use of, but has not been determined redundant.

I vote we use some of the worms goodyness to develop some buds/polup things and send them out. Its insurance and later on we can speed up our evolution via sexual reproduction.
