That looks more like an increment to me...

I strongly suggest NOT TO go in the "living frag grenade" way. totally not woth it.
Multi-helix DNA is useless, unless for quicker division. It DO NOT store more information in a smaller space, since RNA is mono-strand anyway.
I'd like to keep going with the current design of a jellyfish. laz0r spitting-earthborn-jellyfish...  oh wait...
Anyway... The torpedo electric shock come from its membranes. It has special cells that have numerous membranes layers, with an enormous amount of ions (electrically charged atoms). At a nervous signal, unnumbered ducts open, and ions massively flow from one side to another. Like an organic condensator. massive electric shock ensue.

Take:
- Tough Membrane
- Light Muscles
- Stubby Pseudopods (if better than ours only)
- Simple Digestive System
- Simple Circulatory System
- Rudimentary Vision
- Simple Poison Glands (but put OUR poison inside.)
- Simple Spines (Toxin Injecting)

I could go with kaian-a-coel's post.

What do you folks think of a gland system that removes foreign toxins from the body, replicating and then storing them..?

basically sorta immune system, no? antibodies surround the toxin, which is then relocated in specialised vesicle, where acids-or-so denaturalize it (turn it to linear form. proteins must be folded in a precise way to work). then, a special protein of ours come and read it, analyze it, and reverse-transcript it into RNA, which is reverse-transcripted into DNA, which is carefully inserted in our genome. repeat. profit.

I have an idea for a form of reproduction. basically a small area of the stomach, a partitioned area, where a smaller version can be made of our creature. and then expelled through the mouth. it would grow by molting to full size, unless the spikes are more loosely interconnected than i thought.

This is Dwarf Fortress! If we can chuck magma at innocent wildlife, we can do ANYTHING!

It was at this point that I realised that dwarves are actually the essence of chaos. What else can make perpetual motion machines, recursive statues with more building materials than the average tower and has such a short attention span that a damn fine chair can off-set the death of their entire family.

It makes sense if you want your offspring to be protected for prolonged development...

the method was to prevent damage to the original organism via classic cellular division, with a hard shelled. this is of course just an idea from a non-biologist.

As in once we get large enough to 'house' a 'size 1' version of our creature, it would be feasible, and probably more effective.

i predict somewhere between now, and the update after that. other than that... no idea... Hey... time travel is not linear... it's a bunch of... timey.. wimey... wibbly wobbly .... stuff.

there is no time travel. there is no way to go faster than light (wich is required to go back in time). altough it may be possible to get a shortway through a place between the universes. isnt that GREAT? :P
