I agree with all this talk of devoloping LAZORS.

And, expanding on that: High pressure system which launches silicon flechettes with a laser-guided aiming mechanism.

So every cell needs visual reception, a unique visual signal, visual detection, and laser transmission, they also need to be transparent. Once we have that in place local cells can identify other specific cells and communicate. Our energy generation centre will cycle through our form transmitting energy directly to cells, probably with some sort of photo-receptive gel that becomes energised when exposed to light and can sustain the cell by losing that energy. There will need to be dedicated relay-cells as our mass increases. The great advantage of this is that we will be composed entirely of eyeballs...

We are turning into a pretty good brain, it is about time something else absorbed us to use as nuclei...

You guys still want to try being a parasite? I've had something set up, but with this divergence, I'm not sure if that's still what you want to do.

Turn 23

Your curiosity wins out and you swim over to the hole in the ice. You peer inside with your receptors while trying to gather some sense of movement or chemicals with your cilia.

You can sense that something is in there, but you don't know how far in it is or how deep the tunnel itself goes. You poke around inside the ice tunnel with a pseudopod. At first, you don't feel much other than just ice, but then you touch something soft. As if in response, something seizes your pseudopod! It hasn't gotten ripped off, but it's darn close. Better do something before whatever is inside pulls it out of you. While you struggle, you synthesize a crystal of silicon dioxide (silica- the same thing that makes up quartz and your shell).

shoot the sod/stab him and try to pull away?
Anything that can almost pull an entire cell out of your organisms body when your body is only 10 or so cells big is probably not something you should be messing with.

Dissolve it with our enzymes!

(Also, silicon dioxide IS quartz. Quartz is just a crystal of silicon dioxide. SiO2! It may be easier to just refer to it as quartz.)

Hell, I'd also add a membrane filled with enzyme/venom in each breakable section so they attacker will get a !!NASTY!! surprise when they try to consume/break open their prize. Fortune cookie from hell :P

I propose a plan, based on a specific protein yet to be created.
This protein would be conic, with a base designed to absorb photons, the other extremity re-emitting another photon of a given energy in a precise direction. On the side, a site for ATP to keep the energy of photons constant.
Using this proteins we can create LAZ0R quite simply, with a crystal to focuse the photons.
But with several side-proteins, different, dedicated to regulate the photon flux, we could achieve a light-based, compact BRAIN. with binary logic.

Er- yeah? I know. What gave you the idea that that wasn't what I meant? Also, silica sounds cooler. :P
