Turn 13

     Run away! Defenseless, you turn tail and speed toward the only cover you can see- the fungal cell colony down below (9 Energy). Luckily, your cell wall is flexible as well as tough and you can worm your way into the mass of fungal cells. You can only hope that the thing above either doesn't detect you or can't get to you underneath the cells. As you try and wait it out, you try and think of some way to eliminate the hazard it poses. Burning (you aren't sure how you would manage this) comes to mind, but you think enzymes or poison would probably be more doable right now. You divide your second cell and put the divided parts on either side of the main cell. The flagella from the two cells are migrated to the center cell and a large vacuole is formed in each of the side cells. You have enough resources at this point to choose between the poison or enzymes. Which shall it be?

     While you decide, you try to scope out the amoeba's defenses, but all you can tell with your rudimentary senses are this: it is bigger than you, has a bunch of waving transparent arms, and has some sort of static covering. Your chemical detectors can't sense any chemicals coming from it, so it probably doesn't utilize chemicals as weapons.

I think they've decided on enzymes or a toxin, so I suppose you just need to choose which to have your gland cells produce.

That sounds... super effective, provided said enzymes can wriggle their way into the enemy cell's nucleus (provided the enemy cell has a nucleus.)

DNA-absorbing enzymes, please.

You know, stopping to think about this for a moment... what is a DNA-absorbing enzyme actually go to do, in terms of defense? First of all, when I think of an enzyme, I think of digestion- so it's beyond my understanding as to how exactly this absorption without destroying the DNA should work. More to the point, even if this enzyme could capture and retrieve or isolate DNA, the enemy cell would still be intact and capable of attacking, unless the enzyme broke it's body/vital organelles down- but can it do both..?

The way I see it, poisons basically kill whatever they come into contact with.

Enzymes are more mechanical, they dismantle or build things. Make an enzyme that dismantles a cell membrane and we can just watch all the goodies spill out like a pinata! Or they could convert all the proteins into useless clusters that give the victim an I-must-scream moment as their insides stop functioning and leave the complex chemical chains intact for our dining pleasure...

I really need more information on the enzyme/poison dynamic before choosing one, because it seems that enzymes can pretty much replicate anything that a poison can do and will be easier to reabsorb...
