or my suggestion of weak hollow rocks filled with enzymes that are able to be propelled towards an enemy?
Where are you going to get a self-replenishing supply of hollow rocks?

Provided you are in mineral-rich water that has the necessary stuff dissolved in it. It just wouldn't be very... economical.

I think we're all decided on infrared edio, will you please?

I just remembered the votes on passive feeders, everyone take your vote (BOLD) or someone get me a list of votes proper.

I vote for sonar, with passive feeding as a backup for times when other sources of food are scarce.

Nevermind. D:

I was going to make this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porous_silicon and combine it with hydrogen, but apparently it only acts as an explosive under very low temperatures. (-150 C) We can still use it structurally, though, as a replacement for our spikes. That way we can get stuff through osmosis even if we completely cover ourselves in a hard shell.

Currently, it seems like a tie on INFRARED VISION and PASSIVE FEEDING!
Edio, it is now in your hands methinkz.

Passive feeding is my vote. Better sight would be nice too, but passive feeding is ultimately more useful in the long run. Redundancy is a good thing.

My best guess at this point is that we're developing ways of defending our cell/killing enemy cells. Am I correct?

I was more along the lines of suckin' the hydrogen from a droplet of water and devising a way of using said hydrogen as a weapon, but OK.
