I think we should develop some more simple noodly appendages. That way, we won't have to sacrifice important limbs when we want to poke around in something. Put some rudimentary pressure nerves in the ends of them, along with a sack full of enzymes to remotely digest any goodies we find.

This is cool, and in some possible way relevant.

That is scientists showing how much water is sucked up into the bell of a jelly and pulled behind it. Some think that jellies actually contribute to the ocean's currents by pulling along a lot of water.

given the HUUUUUGES numbers of jellyfishs, this may be possible. also, butterfly jellyfish effect.

How about we start with some serious cell specialization.  Real eyes would be nice.

Noooooo! Redundancy! Versatility! build the ultimate cell and rely upon it for the majority of tasks! We can use crystallisation to modify their structure and modify their visual qualities to change how they interact with our L.A.S.E.R. matrix...

No me gusta redundancy.

I can concede that an uber-redundant supercell would be very survivable, but not particularly interesting (IMO).

More interesting than a multi-cellular organism that only does one thing with each type of cell!

The ultimate cell is not static, it is versatile, and it can be changed to fit whatever role is required. If you want armour, build a crystalline frame. Heavy armour? Crystallise the whole cell... You want enzymes? Well, probably have dedicated food processing and stinging cells, but otherwise just feed light into a manufactory, we could probably use crystal structures and complex energy forms to catalyse an organic jelly to and from a wide array of proteins. Eyes would involve crystal structures focusing the light into a separated array of cells, which would have internal crystal structures to distinguish external and internal light sources. Have a mind(if we decide to have one...) generated by the complex pattern of L.A.S.E.R. exchanges happening across the majority of our body. The big problem would be propagating substance. The cells would probably need to be able to divide and cannibalise in order to repair damage and propagate matter from the stomachs to the rest of the body. A regular optical pulse should be able to keep all the cells maintaining the correct form...
