I don't want to sound argumentative, but when your sister was having problems, did you tell her "go on Dwarf Fortress forums, they're the best qualified experts to help you"?

My sister has attempted to kill herself 4 times. A friend's friend was getting beat up by her boyfriend(Although I'm not too sure if this counts as domestic abuse or not). I stopped my sister from doing so, my friend brought his friend over to help them out. It may not be much, but it has given a little experience. Even today, I sometimes still read books on suicide prevention and whatnot.

Well gee, forget the available psychiatric professionals with college degrees and years of experience, I think I’ll ask this forum full of gamers instead, so I can seek the advice of that guy that knew some fairly disturbed people and occasionally thumbs through a book about sucide prevention.

HE IS USING THE LARGEST REPOSITORY OF HUMAN KNOWLEDGE IN HISTORY TO ASK A FORUM OF DWARF-FORTRESS PLAYERS FOR PSYCHIATRIC HELP.

Even if he is not lying, he certainly isn’t interested in getting help—he just wants to tell everyone about it.

Everybody is right, hitty. Your suicidal sister doesn't make you qualified to help a violent psychopath with his troubles (unless she happens to be your Ph. D advisor). If you take a glance through the advice given in these threads, you will find that this forum is not exactly the best place to find help for this stuff, either. It's incapable of giving unharmful advice about making friends or asking a girl out. The only advice we could possibly give which would be of use to this kid is tips on disposing of his mother's body. But we've all indicated that beating his mother up and threatening to kill her is against our moral code, so we're not going to help out.

I don't think that the advice most of us are giving, to go and get professional help, is bad advice.  I also would say it is not bad to tell the OP what he might expect from the first stages of such.

We may not be able to give him the help he needs directly, but at least we can show (as we have) that we care enough to advise him to get help from other quarters.

You guys aren't helping by pointing out that the few people who are being nice to him and take him seriously on these forums are actually unqualified to be friends in hard times.

You will not want to hear this, but it is true.

You have anger problems. Tell a family member, get anti-depressants and you'll be mostly fine. It WILL wear off eventually, if you get angry, take it out on a pillow or sofa (soft, not hard).

I think most of us here were raised to believe that if you are willing to brutalize your close friends and family, you shouldn't have any. This guy isn't going to get any sympathy from me for crying about how he beat up his mom, nor should he get any from anyone else.

He's crying here because he knows he did the wrong thing.

I would rather try to help him back to society, and past whatever issues caused him to act regrettably, than punish him when he is already punishing himself.
