As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I'd say the tank is a bit too square. Maybe make the top left part more sloped. The dropship engine things are a bit pointy, I thought they were bombs at first. I suggest making them rounded.
Also, what do the stealthbot electric fists look like in action? Just curious.

Yeah, the tank was a 5 minute mockup. I'll work on the dropship engines.

Drop ships are rather hard to make well atleast mine suck also you need more shading heres how I do mine but come up with your own way of doing stuff.

I would suggest you obtain some references for that tank, and follow the shape.

Compare this to your tank. It should give you better idea of the shape of the tank. When I made my tank, and my people, I drew it all in silhouettes first. That way I could focus on the shape so it was easily identifiable as a tank.

I was going more for a self propelled gun type vehicle, but I'll take that in for the future.

Any better? I'm just working on the tank. I may or may not abandon the dropship entirely.

I think the SPG looks much better now, but I feel the shape is still not right. To better illustrate, I made an edit of your SPG to show how I think it should look.

  • (A) First I selected the top half of your turret and pulled it back to about the end of your tracks. I also lowered it. This gives it a more tank like look and also means that the turret is not ahead of the front of the tracks, making it more practical.
  • (B) Then I extended the body ahead of the wheels.
  • (C) I tilted the turret and reduced the barrel width further up the barrel. I tilted the barrel so it appears more like a artillery piece then a tank destroyer. (That was what you meant when you said SPG?) Reducing the barrel just makes it look less blocky and more realistic.
  • (D) I just filled up the gap so the turret was not overhanging here, nothing really important.
Once you are comfortable with the shape you can attempt to shade it. For that I suggest using block colors first then adding some texture. Try not to balloon shade (Shading the center a lighter color and the edges a darker color.)

Is there going to be some sort of endgame to the sandbox match, or will it continue until all is bored?

It will continue until the map is nuked and the combatants in pieces. Or everyone gets bored.
