Or for that matter geocaching. (Just google it, my mom used to have lots of fun doing it.)

As you mentioned you need to get your boater card, I would strongly reccomend that. Even men need their toys, and have you ever met a guy with a boat that won't talk boats if the opportunity comes up?

Food is the ultimate social activity. That's why a lot of people go out to lunch/dinner when they're meeting up to discuss business, etc. Have a party or feast. Or if you're not ready for that, just have a BBQ and invite random people.

I wonder what kind of people would come if he just put an ad up on Craigslist for a free BBQ... And how many? Probably a lot if on a weekend  ::) .

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

They would be the sort of people with very little caution-- or paranoia--, who follow Craigslist for such events, and who like eating meat; the number varying wildly depending on the neighborhood as well as the time. It would exclude any vegetarians, both Vectors and irrational health nuts alike, and it would exlude those who don't like a crowd. Anyone who has a life of their own is also right out, as they would probably consider such an occasion a waste of time, whether they mean to or not. There's also a chance you'd get people who live off such events.
Considering what I remember of Olemars interests, he would probably get much better results by advetising a themed, lan party with snacks, although I still recommend checking for geohashers first.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Airsoft, my friend, Airsoft. (If it is legal in your country, that is.)

We are easygoing, fun and friendly.
You start small, in a group of 10 people (or so) and the next thing you know, you are trudging through forests, somewhere in a foreign country alongside a thousand other "lunatics" during a 3-day international event, feeling totally at home, eating MREs from indians, chewing bubble gum from some french guy, and sharing your water with a bunch of russians. All chatting in a horrible jumble of 50% english, 50% anything else, smiling, cursing, wet, dirty and tired, but dang it, you are happy.
All this, in a muddy hole, under heavy fire.

I've been doing it for years, and let me tell you, it turned my life around.

If that sounds like your kind of fun, I'll tell you more.
