I still vote for IIIWC.

We will get to HoI2 in a bit. I am experimenting with AoD as we speak, trying to figure out the main differences.
But Iraq..
While i appreciate the difficulty, it's small scale. Small scale equals boring.
Wouldn't constant fighting on every single continent on the globe be more exciting, than waiting 40 years before we research basic techs?

It's hard to say, I'm not familiar enough with Hearts of Iron's mechanisms to know if that's necessary. I know that isn't necessarily the case in Europa Universalis, people have done successful world conquests with the Iroquois and Xhosa, which are about as weak as it gets. Crusader Kings also allows for huge land grabs but it's very different from the others, and I've seen very impressive minor-borne empires in Victoria.

It just seems odd to me that Paradox would suddenly lose that potential in Hearts of Iron.

That peace offer at the end sure looked mighty tempting.  :P

Don't try a WC in EU III.  There is a point after you attain leading nation status that you end up spending 10 times more time fighting rebels then foreigners.  Given that rebels have the annoying habit of fleeing for months upon months, even when pathetically outnumbered and that you can't get any decent generals if nobody can stand up to you, it is very, very frustrating to go for a WC and won't make for a good AAR.

I dislike both EU series as They allow for world domination with little effort  :-\
EU 2 was the worst, but EU 3 introduced the "- badboy" upgrade  that allows free roaming..
There is also : CK. A game where only dice rolls can ever cause you to lose.

Don't expect me to ever play any of those for an AAR.

Is there anything that gives you a challenge? Seriously.

I actually gave it some more thought, and (for STRATEGY GAMES alone, as that's what we're discussing) :

Strategy games that require you to build 10 000 000 more troops than your enemy, for example : C&C, were always my downfall.
Age of Empires 2 was too, but then i've learned that all you need to do is have sick amounts of settlers and you win by default.

Settlers or villagers? Because I'm 99.99999% sure that there are no settlers in Age of Empires 2.

Honestly, HOI2 sounds like about the only reasonably challenging strategy game you could make an AAR/LP out of.

Maybe take a look at Tactics, rather than Strategy? I'd like to see how Stworca plays X-Com, X-Com Apoc or Jagged Alliance 2.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what would work. Homeworld, maybe, although that fits in the building tons more units than the enemy style.

HOI2 isn't all that hard due to the anemic AI.  Poland vs. Germany is a decent challenge but most other games just consist of a long series of series of successful invasions, akin to the RTW AAR that he just finished.

But unlike RTW the AI is not hard-coded, and there have been many good AI mods. DAIM, RISK, Stworca's Retarded AI (what..? Yes i did!) and the later expansions altered AI as well (AoD to name one)

Aside from that, HoI has actually impossible tasks (without gaming the system). Estonia will not stop USSR no matter what sorcery they posses. 44' Germany breaks balls (doable, but barely). And so on.

Edit : I mean have you SEEN how much terrain Axis had on my save!?

That would be pretty good.  All the watchers could take the role of nobles or guildmasters and issue various mandates.
