Enemies have truckloads of missile cav. Let us hope for some terrain to use as advantage. Hills, rocks, woods, it does not matter..
Oh, i get a flat plain with nothing on it.
A total of four cavalry units on our side, including the generals. Tier 1 heavy infantry. Basic archers. The only unit that is not available at the very beginning of the game are the carriage balistas.
Despite running on 60 fps, the enemies do not arrive at once anyway.. I don't get it.
We form a wide line of spread out heavy infantry, and simply charge forward, with our cavalry widely flanking the foes, picking the horse archers. Finally something that looks like a god damn BATTLE!
Our infantry line is far wider than theirs, and we have javelins that make a swooshing sound when flying.
Our cavalry quickly gains advantage and wipes out enemy missile cav. Our infantry is free to begin operation "Come 'ere, Jimmy, and give grandma a hug".
It's super effective.
Wave number two is closing in, we..
Reform the base line!
Also : Enemy general is a fool.
This time we are not charging with the line though. The enemies have sent their cavalry forward, and their infantry is still far away. Besides, we are winded. We hold the ground and let the javelin+arrow party start.
OUR cavalry is still going out though.
Lone horse archers are an easy prey..
On both flanks, they fail.
Heavily. And soon are completely wiped out, with only their infantry left.
It appears that the third wave is appearing early, with most of the second still on the field. However, all missile cav from the second are gone, so we can reform the line.
Everything that can throw or fire stuff, focuses on wave 3 horse archers, so that we face only infantry.
We succeed, thanks to our mercenaries serving as shields, and heavy infantry having large shields and heavy armor..
Now it's just their crappy infantry and generals vs our epic, veteran, badass infantry, archers, big ball relatives (generals) and 8 experience carriage balista.
Archer + Balistae focus fire, followed by spearhead charges in two places - and not across the line - does the trick. Unwashed barbarians flee.
Rout actually, and the remaining ones flee.. I guess they lost too many people.
Why attack me in the first place you retards?!
Oh, wait.. I was the attacker! Nevermind.
Come on now, if that's not a crushing victory, then i do not know what is.
We will never, ever again see Ostrogoths in this Let's Play. I will slaughter the survivors offscreen.
Perhaps i will show the "Faction Destroyed" screen..
But do They really deserve that much?
And yes, i too wonder why the Sarmatians that killed 900 enemy cavalry got ONE experience bar.. This blows.
