I subscribe to looking at zombies from a sociological perspective. Zombies represent most people in the world in relation to you and your social circle. To us, most people's thoughts and motivations seem strange and alien, even if knowable. A lot of the time, we default to seeing those we don't have any social contact with as being a threat to us, because most people would rather be cold to strangers than stabbed to death in an alleyway. Zombies are the logical extreme of that, as all they desire is to kill and consume living humans. The group of "survivors" represents a person's social circle, the only people you can trust (and only barely so even then). The idea of infectious zombie bites represents the fear people outside of the social circle (zombies) "infecting" someone close to you (survivors) with foreign ideas (the bites). Hence, one eventually has to cut off contact with the "survivor" because they have become another "zombie" to them.

I know I didn't invent this perspective on zombies, but I'm not sure who did.

I think the movie could have been good if they'd made it a mockumentary. Pity they're not doing that
