I've got two libraries, and my ipod is currently synced with the one on my desktop at home(which I DO NOT currently have access to), and has a number of small-time indie albums that don't show up in the iTunes database. I don't want to sync with the library on my laptop and lose these, but at the same time I've got some new stuff in the library that I want to add. I've already tried the "Transfer purchases from ipod to library" option in the file scrolldown selection, and that doesn't work for stuff that isn't in their database.

Any suggestions as to how I can add the unlisted albums from my ipod to my library, or on how to sync the new songs without erasing anything else would be greatly appreciated.

How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

Straight from the Apple support site.  If this is insufficient for your purposes and your Googlefu is failing you, report back and I'll spend more than three seconds helping you.

That particular solution requires you to use your iPod as a flashdrive by manually transferring your music files from your old computer to the ipod, and then from the ipod to your new computer. Notice what I mentioned? If you're going to make a sarcastic comment because you think you instasolved someone's problem with a google search, make sure you get the facts right, eh? I had already found that and realized that I couldn't do it that way BECAUSE I AM A STATE AWAY FROM MY DESKTOP and don't have the time (or a car) to get to it. I was posting here to see if anyone knew of a solution that wasn't obvious.

Honestly, though, forget it. I'll have a chance to get back home in a few months and do it then. Let this die.

That website contains the very basic information for accomplishing what you asked.  I'll tell you right now, I've never seen a tool that could do what you want if the ipod isn't already configured as a disk.  Notice that you didn't say whether or not you'd done that.

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic.  I was trying to be helpful, but I don't have six hours to research for you right now.  I was simply saying that if that site doesn't contain the information you need to solve your problem, let me know so I can start looking for other options and ask questions since I wasn't provided complete information in the first place.  Don't get so aggressive when someone tries to help you.

The way that was phrased came off as really nasty, sorry if I overreacted. The reason I came here in the first place was that I've looked around quite a bit without finding anything and was checking to see if anyone knew of some obscure way to accomplish it. As I said, I'll eventually be able to take care of it, so thanks for the offer, but I'll be fine.

I'm just about sure that there's an app that will do that for you. I've never used it myself, but it was making the rounds of the tent (only for use for those songs that we owned on disc, note, nothing illegal about). I'll see if I can find one of the guys who uses it and ask them where they got it.

My solution has a couple problems, but it will work.

I'm going to assume you are running Windows 7. This might also work for Vista, but I'm not sure.

First, go to the start menu and click Computer on the right-hand side. Click on 'Organize' towards the top-left corner of the window. Then select Folder and Search Options. In that window, click on the View tab and enable "Show hidden files, folders, and drives".

Next, find the main directory for your iPod when it's plugged into your computer.

You should see a Music folder or something similar in your iPod's directory. This has all the music that's on your iPod. I like to copy and paste the folder somewhere on the computer's hard drive, but I'm not sure if you have to. You should just in case.

The problem is that even though the music contains all the album and artist data etc, they are in a jumbled mess of folders, the sound files themselves probably even have random names like ai85je even if it's actually "We Are the Champions". So in the Music folder in your iPod's directory, there might be 12 different folders titled "FE1" "FE2" "FE3" etc and within each of those are a mixed up group of songs.

Now, open iTunes->file->Import folder and select the folders with the iPod music. This will import them to iTunes.

The only way I know of to find a certain song is to import all of them onto iTunes and delete all the copies. It's a pain, but it's a way to get music onto libraries without syncing the iPod.

If anyone has a more convenient method, please post. I'm not good at explaining this method either, it's really simple but when I type it out it looks confusing to me.

Summary:
Find your iPod directory, enable "show hidden files and folders", import folders onto iTunes.

Thanks, I did that and it worked fine. Time to spend an hour or so deleting, but that isn't a big deal.

I think I managed to use Winamp to achieve much the same thing, but without duplicates, back when I still used my iPod.
