I wanna thank you for taking the time and effort to do this LP. MOO3 is a game I had looked forward to for a long time and I was really disappointed by its state at release, so much so that I had written it off entirely as a bad buy. Your LP has prompted me to give it another try now, years later. I'll be grabbing the mod pack you supplied as it sounds great and trying it tonight when I get home.

Will update the modpack with further tweaks next week when I get my laptop back. Have added better random events, toned down the elder civilizations, and massivley beefed up migration (particularly for the AI), and reduced the cost of carriers and missile ships to make them more common in combat.

I apologize for asking in your LP thread but is there any way to alter the screen resolution of the game? A quick google searched turned up not much, and nothing recent.

Yes I realize this is an oft-asked question but I'm asking in the hopes that someone somewhere has figured out some way. :)


Edit: Also just wanted to report that this works fine on Windows 7. Installed game (bought ages ago from gamersgate) then unzipped your pack into the folder and it started right up.

Edit2: Is there some reason I seem to have race-specific techs in my research? I started as human and I have 'meklar' 'cynoid' and 'silicoid' self-sufficiency techs. Are these actually in effect? Seems odd.

Hah! Got it working with Chocolate 0.9.9. Turns out the problem was the official Quicksilver 1.2.5 Data Patch (not the executable patch, the one that replaced two GameAssets files instead). That was what was breaking it.


It's kind of a sadly fitting statement that a piece of code from Quicksilver was in fact the culprit. I'm not sure those guys could program their way out of a wet paper bag.  ::)

Its not that the don't know how to program its that the are to lazy to do it better that is the reason they suck.

Hm, not sure if I did it right. now when I start a game I don't see ANY racial techs, even for the race I am playing.

It works in the sense that I no longer see the racial techs for every race. I now see none of them at all. :P That is alright too I suppose.

Got it working, somehow. I guess. Last time I started a game as silicoid the 'silicoid self-sufficiency' thing wasn't showing but this time it does so yay. Thanks!

Played around just a smidge last night. Still utterly lost because of the different play style (you don't seem to directly order anything, which I get, it's a macro-level game. But I don't know how to 'nudge' the AI in the direction I want...), but I'm liking the mod already for bringing back scattered pockets and leaders of the 'deleted' races. I still don't understand how they could cut 4 of the 10 original races from MOO1.


I'll shut up now as to not clutter the OP's thread. :)
