Turn 35: No news of note, but we are getting a little close to our mineral capacity. If in a year or 2 this situation is not rectified, some research funds will be directed towards the "Empire" school of tech to try and depelop our mining methods.

OOC:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Turn 36: A third Alien has approached us offering thier services. They claim to be able to improve the manner in which our labour force is organised, and I see no reason why we should not let them press ahead with reforms.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Turn 37: No news to report

Turn 38: Our expedition has set up an outpost on Laan III. The Brye Ehts were most welcoming. Out Xenobiologists are under the impression that they find us as bizzare and baffling as we do them. Communication is difficult, but they appear to have a very different sense of the nature of spacetime, and took some convincing that there are other worlds out there that we could offer them should they wish to join us. I am still not fully convinced they either understand nor believe this concept, but efforts at forming a union between our 2 races continue apace.

Turn 39:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Great news. The Brye Ehts have decided to accept the offer of Federation Member status. Whilst the Brye Ehts lack what we would identify as a written or verbal language, we have established communications whch translate between our phonetic sounds and thier modulated EM waveforms. They refer to thier homeworld as Cerapa - well, actually, they refer to all planets with that word as they still seem not to get that there are many planets. Thier homeworld offers little in the way of minerals (worrying as I am informed that we have no surplus minerals at all -the reforms brought in by our recently accepted advisor have pushed production rates through the roof) and farmable land, but the Brye Ehts consume little in the way of nourishment. Thier homeworld is designated as a research hub - we have a lot to learn from such a strange species. Before long Brye Eht migrants will be encouraged to set up home on other cool, dense atmosphered worlds.

Oh, and some Human pioneers have set up a small outpost on Exis II.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
No doubt many more migrants will flock to this forzen world - I have no idea why as the icy tundra surface of this world supports a particularly hosite insect species which feeds an a particularly nasty invasive plant like lifeform.

Our scientific advisors inform me that within a decade they expect to have developed the first fully functional "Shields" - protective fields projected around the hull of a ship. Hopefully this is more than just a flight of fancy. Should these predictions turn out to be well founded, we will need to redesign our fleet to include such advantageous devices.

Whats a planet?

Question, do the leaders work galaxywide?

leader effects apply on all planets controlled by our race, both Bonii and Malii. Of course, an industrial modifier will have most impact on an industrial world. A world with no industry will not be affected by an industrial modifer. Some can be both a blessing and a curse. Our industrial output is currently through the roof (+20% on all worlds), but we cant feed our factories enough minerals so will have production penalties and loss of income... I am torn between pushing for a mining tech and putting up with these penalties for a short while or just dismissing the leader. He does stifile our population growth rate after all...

Turn 40

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Fantastic. We now have the capability to transport ground troops to the surface of Alien worlds. Our engineers have designed our first troop transports (schematics below). Our shipyards have been instructed to incorporate these in thier usual production runs. Once we have a number of these, we can consider deploying some soldiers off world.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our engineers also report an improved method for layering arour and the completion of a larger weapon mount. These will be used in designs once the promising shielding technology is complete.

Scout Beta has returned the following survey data from Tardig, a main sequence Yellow Dwarf star.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The 4 gas giants are out of our reach for now. Tardig III is a desert planet, which save for its very high temperatures would be a pleasant world. It should prove a suitable test bed for any future terraforming methods.

Exis II will gain full colony status in the very near future. I eagerly look forward to whatever bizzare name its inhabitants will choose for thier home.

Huh. I may have to look into this. MOO3 was so made of fail that it remains the only game I've ever taken back to the store for a refund. The same day I bought it.  :'(

Yea, for 6 months after I first bought it i let it gather dust. Then I stumbled across the modding community and made one hell of an effort to make a difference. Probably worth it...

Turn 41

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Thanks to our overdriven industry we are now short of minerals (see highlighted stat). Our chosen course of action is to direct greater research funds towards our "Empire" school of technology - One group of engineers is confident simply digging deeper could be the answer... I personally am not so sure, but I can see little harm in letting them try.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our labs are reporting a whole host of military upgrades nearing completion. I am holding off on pressure to authorise a new run of ship designgs until both the shield generator tech and a reliable shiled it can prject are complete.

Scout Beta has reached Fahd

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fahd is a poor excuse for a star, but features 3 worlds of note: Fahd II is a tropical world with a breathable atmosphere, but far too hot and huid for inhabitation. A group of planetary scientists is postulating implementing a theoretical technology they are calling "Sunlight Redirection", using a variety of means to warm or cool a planet. Fahd II will be colonizable should this tech work. Fahd IV has a comfortable and breathable atmosphere, even if its thickly clouded atmosphere prevents direct observation of the surface. Fahd V could not be more perfect even if we had designed it. Its surface is 95% fresh water, with a breathable atmpsphere is an ideal temperature. Numerous archipelago chains straddle its great oceans. It is a shame it appears to have minmal mieral wealth and a lack of arable terrain.

Now, on to our expansion efforts. The expedition has established a base of operations on the Bulrathii home world. Our operatives are solwly earning thier grudging respect, and the Bulrathii seem genuinley enthusiastic about the potential for expanding off-world. Speaking of expanding off world... The Brye Ehts have sent a band of curious pioneers to the innermost planet in thier system.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We dont get why they chose here - its not particularly suited to thier needs. Perhaps they are just trying to work out what is meant by "other worlds". Who cares - its another planet we can bring under our dominion, should other Brye Ehts or curious Humans be attracted there.

Oh, yes... worlds under our dominion...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Exis II has grown into a full colony. Recreating the sense of humour shown by our Viking forefathers, it has been named Grunwald by its inhabitants. Hopefully they will labour hard to turn it into a lush, green paradise. They will have to - its native life will no doubt not enjoy thier being there. Grunwald shows signifigant potential as a farming world, which is great as its not as if we have the minerals to support an industrial powerhouse at this moment in time.

Turn 42

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Small news first. As you can see, our scientists continue thier sterling work into improving our offensive capabilities.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Brye Ehts continue to baffle as they send a small number of settlers to a gas giant world in the Kaff system. Probably all the Methane there looks like a free lunch.

However, both these facts pale into the major development this year...

5th Recon Det. holding picket in Theta Lyr picked up a short but highly directional data burst. The computing capacity on board the Sheb Class scout proved insufficient to process this signal, so it was relayed back to Earth. Over a number of days the signal was translated into what appeared to be a message:

We Zedovariri. Observe proximal world growth. Wish to become you. Request? Respond.

It seemed they wanted to establish formal contact. A hastily assembled diplomatic team with minor security was dispatched to land on thier homeworld of Sadalbari IV. I find it hard to forgive myself for ordering this mission. The Zedovariri refer to themselves as the Ithkul, but those of us that observed events that day have given the name of "Harvesters". A Harvester is a flat organism, no more than 15 cm thick, roughly circular in cross section, 1m in diameter. 3 tough, muscly appendages over 1m in length adorn each side of thier body (terminating with a tough and sharp tip), with a central "mouth" on a snout loaded with optical and auditory sensory apparatus. Our diplomatic mission was wiped out. The Harvesters clamp on to thier victim, bury thier appendages into thier flesh, and burrow into thier central nervous system with thier "mouth". The security team killed dozens, as although they are fast and agile, thier bodies are as weak as ours under the effects of small arms fire. A Harvesters goal isnt to kill its victim. Instead it "takes over" the body it is attached to, as some form of controlling parasite. Video feed from the incident showed these "posessed" individuals being guided away from the scene by the Harvesters - our Biologists assume that the Harvesters are using the bodies of thse they latch on to as some kind of feeding mechanism, using the useful products of respiration to grow and reproduce in some manner. Some stills are included below.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hours after the incident we recieved a second message, again relayed by 5th Recon Det. to Earth. This time, there was no need for a translation.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our Xenobiologists hypothesise that the Harvesters are able to access the central nervous system of thier host body. That would explain how they managed to gain competence in our langauge so quickly. No reply was sent to this message. We expect further demands in the near future.

Presented with these facts, The Zedovarari present a real and credible threat to the lives of all our citizens. No formal decleration of war is needed - through thier actions they have shown they wish to use us as little more than food. Our immediate and ongoing duty must be to wipe out this menace. For this to be achieved, a number of emergency plans have been put in place.

1: A number of covert operatives are being recruited. There are 2 mission profiles that these operatives will follow. Firstly, insertion into the Harvester home system with orders to gather information on thier technical capabilites. If the opportunity presents itself, disrupting thier research efforts is a secondary goal. Secondly, some operatives will remain in our systems, with orders to prevent the enemy doing the same to us.

2: Research funding is being prioritized in the "Fleet" and "Beam" schools - I have no intent of subjugating the Harvesters, simply wiping them from the face of the galaxy. Bigger and better ships will be a boon in this.

3: Our economy will be placed on a "Total War" footing, in order to focus on military spending for the duration of this emergency. Grats for planetary development have been cut and diverted to military programmes.

4: The social freedoms enjoyed by our inhabitants will have to be curtailed for the duration of the emergency. Whilst opressive measures will no doubt displease our general populace, I consider them a must to help detect those amongst our midst that would prefer to see our young empire broken up.

Whilst the Harvesters have been confined to the Sadalbari system by our border pickets and as such have few worlds, those worlds are heavily populated. Our goal is clear. All long range scouting is to be curtailed. We will construct ships and fleets to take control of the Sadalbari system, and sterilize the worlds under Harvester control by bombarding them with our full force of arms.

Today beings a struggle which must end in the death of each and every Harvester

the Ithkul eating the other races is a really cool concept in MOO3 and I don't know if there are other space X3 games with parasitic races quite like them.

Give em hell. I don't know if your tech is quite enough to glass their planets yet but you have to do it. A mix of Ithkul in your populations is presumably bad bad bad.

I actually own the disked version of this game. I'm tempted to give the modded version a shot myself. I hope it works on Windows 7.

Despite the early tech level and small ships, enough missile ships and carriers might just do it.

Integrating Ithkul into your population is a silly thing to do. WIth great care and micromanagement you can restirct them to specific worlds (useful as they make decent ground troops and good researchers), but they have a nasty habit of eating ALL your other population. Ithkul worlds with no sentients to feed on generate huge unrest, which tends to force them to other worlds.

A right old laugh is to gift Ithkul infested worlds to your worst enemy. They go happy with you for a while due to the free world. Then a spacemonster eats all of thier heads. I used to do this back in the day to human opponents in MP games - it was fucking hilarious.

If you have difficulty finding the mods, shoot me a PM and ill point you in the right direction. No idea if it works on Win7 or not - I only use XP.

Man this game looks like fun-- Anyone found a reliable source of disks?

Actually, wouldn't it be legal in most countries to buy the download version (but not install it) and obtain an unpaid copy of the CD version? They ARE the same product...
They would still list it as "$(MSRP) lost to piracy" and may attempt to crackdown and demand millions, but they would lose in court I think.

It works in win 7, i am proof of it, but it needs the latest patch, or "directX whatever error" happens :P Also, expect some minor visual bugs (very minor)
Also, i have the chcolate and tropical mods downloaded, but i'm only playing with tropical because i don't know how to include chocolate as well. How can you combine them?

Oh, and nuke the zedovariri from orbit, it is the only way to be sure :D
