Morning, noon and afternoon are symbolism for the beginning middle and end of life.

The answer is a human. At the beginning of it's life it crawls on all fours, at the middle of it's life it stands on two feet, and at the end of it's life it uses a cane, hence the third leg.

No, I'm pretty sure its a monkey.

Okay, uh... how about a show dog? Like in a carnival. I saw one before, and it was walking around on four legs before the show, but then they had it walking around like a person on 2, but then I think it hurt its paw or something? Because later on it was limping and only using three of them.

That's a stupid answer, a cane isn't a leg. Not even metaphorically. And even if it was, old people near the end of their life use walkers, not canes. Canes are more for fancy people. So maybe it should add that a little bit later the thing has six legs then, huh? And maybe they have three legs somewhere in the afternoon if they have to go to a fancy ball or something.

Yeah, gotta agree with GlyphGryph here.

Comparing a cane to a leg is absolutely ridiculous.

And yet that actually is a legitimate riddle that had that as an answer.

No, I'm fairly sure the Egyptians had that wrong.

If I'm being symbolic enough to refer to morning, noon and evening as periods of someone's life, I think I'm allowed to call a cane a leg.

It was a Greek riddle.

Actually it's not from Egypt it's from Greece, we associate sphinxes with Egypt today, because of the statue(structure? building? tomb? not sure what to call it) the original riddle came from Greek myth.
Now days the riddle is almost never used, not necessarily because it's no longer applicable (I know some old men who use canes rather than walkers) but rather because practically everyone knows it.

Heartily agreed.
