Personally, I'm thinking that I liked Pirate Ship Wars (for GMod) better. Of course it's kind of dead and buggy now, I think...

Well, I'd be on if the game didn't declare it cannot launch whenever I try to.

Edit: Oh, it appears Symantec borked it's kneecaps thinking it was a virus when I installed it -.-

You can't climb on the masts and stuff because the ships aren't actually ships.  During spectator mode you can climb out the window.  The ships are basically big boxes with windows, sitting next to each other, and a model that represents the enemy ship floats around in a position corresponding to the enemy ship's relative position.

It would be cool if the ships were actually moving around full of people but that would be pretty hard to do.
Battlefield 1942 could do that. Both sides get a plane, rest of the team stands on the wings. Pilots match speed, gunners get at it.

Some engines can do it but I don't think engines with a lot of physics simulation can.  If you try to do it in something like Half Life, for example, you'll probably fall off or get launched through the air.

This is true, try standing on a moving tank in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, you lag all over the show and eventually fall off. Same goes for helicopters, UAVs, quads, any other vehicle you can stand on. It must be hard enough for coders to get the person inside the vehicle to update their position in sync with the vehicle itself, especially keeping them in the same chair in a specific position in the vehicle. Trying to do the same for someone who isn't actually attached to the vehicle entity must be incredibly hard.

It does work quite well in halo, although internet connections sometimes pose a problem to SG airlines :P Having sniper buddies on top of my banshee is fun =)

I got into a fight with a captain and one of his crew members.  Before I knew it, they'd boarded and shot me, but I'd done a fair job of holding them off and shooting them!

It's kind of clunky.  Hopefully they'll smooth it out a bit.
