Interesting stats

So I decided to look up dwarf fortress in google trends, and : http://www.google.com/trends?q=dwarf+fortress&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

It seems that the news stories give HUGE bonuses to the searches. Go figure.

Yea, I was surprised that it had been googled so many times in Finland as well.

The reason Dwarf Fortress is popular here in Finland?

You see, in Winter, ground is frozen. In Summer, ground is usually muddy. Meaning we have only a few months of fortress-building here while you Americans can do it all year round.

Well, some Americans can.  Some other Americans have climates that allow only a few months of outdoor activity, as well.   Perhaps not quite as challenging as Finland, but still daunting.  :P

Portland, Oregon, seems to be a big area for the US, followed by Alaska.  The latter I understand, but I had no idea Portland was so dwarfy.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Is this because one of my website's taglines is "There's nothing to catch in the central swamps."?

...

Finland is Winland once again.
