Dipping into the puddle of small bird blood That has formed, you charge it with mana, and it freezes a bit, which with a bit of moving about and drawing shapes in the semi-liquid, eventually forms into very very thin, but workable, crystals which are brought in immediately.

The sparkmind decides upon efficiency as the answer to the outnumbering, but the still minimal amount of parts makes ammo seem somewhat impratical. That plan is kept for later. After splitting into two groups of 7, two rabbits are targeted.
(10) Communication is hit or miss between the two groups, but you got what you aimed for. There must be a way to get more out of a single animal than this, though. They then wait for a more substantial pool before transforming the blood, though.

We can't spark a rabbit in order to get some kind of hopper form?

Not much else to do but absorb their blood then, right? Go for the jugular! Slaughter the rabbits! Crystallize the blood and go forth!

Also: Do we think it's actually efficient to be in two swarms? I'm assuming we're smarter/stronger/better as one swarm, but if our one swarm gets stomped the other one can escape. Thoughts?

I'm just waiting for the point when we can bleed out that cow. That's gotta be like 15 crystals.

Singular swarm is better, but split swarm was able to strike twice the number of rabbits. The swarm can't really do much with its sparks at this point, it doesn't have a way to control what the magic does besides make more of it. The wizard might have some useful information if the swarm can find him and get him to do better than losing track of us, though.
Also, make sure you guys say if you want to look for knowledge or not when we're attacking things, otherwise I'll just assume whatever there might be not important right now.

I dunno, he was originally gathering crystals for spells, and while he might think that its awesome that he created crystal LIFE, he might destroy us or try to enslave us (enslaving being the most reasonable thing to do, since we would be a very formidable servant), something that I doubt we could withstand.

I vote we keep killing rabbits and growing larger, if we get all of them, we should end up substantially larger and smarter.
If we get large enough we might even be able to get the cow, at which point we could probably survive the wizard if he turns out to be hostile (splitting off a few crystals first, have them hide underground and if we get killed by the wizard then they go on and get larger on their own).

Other note: how exactly is the swarm communication (I presume its MAGIC), and what is the limit/range to the communication?

Na, gotta disagree with that number.
A rabbit is 6 crystals. Rabbits weight .4-2kg
A cow weighs from 40kg (as a baby holstein cow)-580 (for a mature holstein cow), and thats not even counting other larger species or record holders. If its proportional to mass we should get anywhere from 120-8700 crystals from it, with about 800 being a sensible result. Even if its not proportional to mass, we should be able to get at least like 100 from it.

Its not exactly proportional to mass, right now I'm just guessing how big their brain is and halving that. Once the swarm can actually just consume stuff I might need to pay attention to mass more, though.

The wizard has nil Psionics skill, if he any decent skill with it we wouldn't be out on this field slaughtering rabbits to learn things. The only threat would be from offensive spells like fireball.

The swarm communication is a quite limited (right now) psionics broadcast based on the sparks. Improving the sparkmind will make it smarter, and able to split itself farther away, right now they have to be within visible range of at least one shard per group on both sides.

Oh well, at least its better then 15 crystals.

If the wizard can't enslave us, our risk is much lower, but still not 0, since he might decide a growing swarm of crystals that might be able to grow indefinitely by killing things is slightly dangerous to him int he long run.

I can think of two major (fairly riskfree) courses of action 1) keep killing rabbits to get larger 2) fly over to the cow, and drop on its neck and STABITYSTABSTAB, killing it getting more precious crystals (something that should result in the same number of crystals as killing all of the rabbits).

Personally, I think we should go stabitystab the cow for massive growth.
