Each Crystal is approx. 1 inch long and slightly less wide, there are 7 of them in a formation akin to legs with sharp points for feet.

Yes, but that was a swarm controlled by Vix the Multimancer. This is just some secondrate wizard whose lost track of us already, so the Cryswarm is needing to find its own way up into actual semi-intelligence.

Not a bad idea, but we're outnumbered about 5.3 to 1 (according to WolframAlpha, anyway), and it would take two crystals/bunny to actually do anything.

A suggestion to experiment on insects is given, but it seems like too much work when the bird is right there and easier to see. A plan to conquer the rival swarm of rabbits is proposed, but shelved for now due to a lack of resources. Onwards to the bird you go, with it not noticing you from behind apparently. A jump and a stab to the head followed by surging all of the sparkmind into the piercing one results in...Partial success. The sparkmind retrieves a bird-like form and a flying instinct related to it before the bird's brain is set aflame partly from the sparking of the overcharged crystal. More finesse and less excited surging into it will be required next time.
