91 z-level high volcano, just a tad steep.
« on: August 22, 2011, 07:33:44 pm »

I just embarked on a volcano, with flat all around it. It seemed normal, until I got onto the ground-level area of the volcano. -91 z-levels?! Most of which, however, have no sides. Just a giant tube sticking out of the damn ground.

Look at the altitude number.

I dare you to pop a hole in it, near the bottom. Might as well add a regulation valve, though.

What did you think the first thing I am going to do is?

wait if they have no sides doesnt that mean the magmas gonna flood the world once you unpause? I use windows 7 snipping tool for screenshots.

If adamantine is perfectly rigid, as shown by having 0 strain at fracture in the raw files, then the speed of sound in the metal approaches the speed of light. Adamantine musical instruments would produce ultrasonic vibrations, and cut off the fingers of the musician.

No, he means that the sides are sheer drops.

One tile between me and heaven.

Or hell if you want to be technical.

The distinction between those two are whether the magma has hit the booze yet.

Also, I would really like to build around one of those. Drain it out some, cap the drained portion (so it doesn't just refill), and build your fort entirely inside the tube.

Bonus points if you let the magma refill around your fort, and have to drain the volcano to get out.

Nah, you should build your fort inside of it, completely out of glass. The entrance should be a tunnel which has hatch openings on top, so that you can drown incoming goblins in magma with the flick of a switch. Better yet, make the entrance tunnel completely out of retracting bridges, so you can cause it to simply disappear.

Download Fortress Overseer or upload your save. I want to see this thing in 3D.

How many spawned? When I had a bug like to that, only eight or so spawned.
