All the merc knows is that you gave him free drinks. You could have him wake up in the castle and just have Kevin stay up during the day to explain that he was brought here since he passed out and Drake had no idea where he lived. No questions asked since it is the reasonable thing to do when someone passes out.

For now just find out what kind of necromancy Kevin is familiar with.

I vote for sparing the merc, but instead sending him to Reginald to boost our relations with him. Don't know if this comes under "spare" or "other" but I voted other regardless.

Alright, common decency seems to have won the day, but some people might disagree with you Micelus on what exactly to do with the mercenary after he is spared.  I need more input on this before writing a turn, which I will do much later today, I'm kinda busy.

This might have worked with the girls and Lord Jameson, but sending a soldier to an already large army won't give you many points. Besides, do we really need him to trust us when our plan is to tunnel under and surprise him during a fight?

Oh my God, this isn't that easy to figure out.  I'll just go with Micelus' suggestion, give the soldier to Reginald, no one else has any plan what to do with him other than spare him.

                                                                                                     

Your morality gets the better of you ( curse it! ) and you call Kevin.

"Kevin, wait, stop."

He turns back, relieved.

"Yes, boss?"

"Hrrmm...just leave him, I'll deal with him."

"Sure boss, whatever you say." he says, grateful that he no longer had to perform his "experiments" on the poor mercenary.

After Kevin leaves the general vicinity, you stare at the unconscious man, and think.  How could he possibly be useful?  You fed from him, gathered information, he's expendable.  But maybe, just maybe, you do have some shred of decency, enough not to just kill and dispose of him. 

But what will you do?  After much pondering, you decide that sending this man to Reginald would be the best bet.  Reginald wouldn't think much of it, but it doesn't matter. 

Within the hour, the mercenary wakes up.  He looks around, bewildered, until you appear.

"Where am I?  Did you rob me, you piece of-"

"You passed out, I had no idea where you lived, so I brought you back to my castle."

He stops for a second, thinks, and seems to accept your explanation after noticing that he as all his stuff on him. 

"Alright, I'd best be going now."

"Wait one second sir, would you like a more stable source of income?"

"What?"

"A better job?"

"Working for you?"

"No, working for a friend, well not friend, but acquaintance, of mine, Lord Reginald."

"Huh, I heard about him, some sort of glorified general."

"I'd recommend you not insult him, but if you do your job well, he may hire you, for a very long time, longer than your current job."

He thinks some more, seeing an opportunity.

"Alright, bring me to him."



Later


You bring the mercenary to Lord Jameson's castle in the north, and meet the "lord".  You explain the situation.

"Why should I hire a mercenary?  Mercenaries, I'll admit, can be good fighters, but they're not loyal.  And my army won't be that much stronger with just a single new man."

"Yes, but there are other mercenaries, and if he gets into contact with them, he may tell them about what a good employer you are.  For all we know, you might be getting a few dozen to a few hundred new soldiers within the month."

"Hmph...if you put it that way, fine.  Not bad, vampire.  Now get out."

You flit back to your castle, your cold heart just a bit warmer. 

                                                                                                 

Sorry for the delay in updates, just made a very new paint adventure in Forum Games.  Plot, plan, post.  I'll reset the poll to something less relevant to the main story.

Before the below plan is enacted, ask Kevin what exactly he did as a necromancer.

Yeah, back to Phase 1 of The Masquerade


Damn, should have mentioned to connect the tunnel network into our castle. But I didn't reveal my plan, so I guess that's acceptable.

Well on the morrow, travel south. Head into the town and ask for Will, father of Arianne. Once we find him, tell him that your a friend of Arianne- no we're not a customer, just an actual friend. Ask to speak in private and tell him that his daughter has been taken by Lord Jameson. Neglect to mention that you gave her to him. Say you have a plan to rescue her. Say that it involves werewolves. Drop the fact that you know about Arianne's husband the werewolf. Ask him him if he could distract Lord Jameson by starting a revolt here for a time and getting the local werewolves to aid them. Tell him to only start the revolt when you send the message.

 If he has guards, and seems like he wants to kill us, Go into mist form, laugh playfully, and tell him that your no normal being.

Finally, ask him if he knew a lord named Francis

This is Phase 1 of the plan I call, The Masquerade ( I just wanted to use that word badly. Why not use it in a vampire game?).

After this , head into the forest and wait for...the wolves to come.

As you arrive at your castle, you turn your thoughts back to plotting.  You must conduct the first part of your plan, but first, you must have a word with the local necromancer.

"Kevin", you ask, "I thought you're a necromancer.  Why the reluctance to working on live subjects?"

"I don't want to hurt anybody.  I'm not evil, I'm not." he says, somewhat defensively.

"Kevin, exactly what did you do that forced you to leave your home?"

He pauses, trying to remember, then with a look of regret on his face, he speaks.

"Well...I was just the local undertaker there, worked in the graveyard.  Yeah, I got a lot of test subjects from there, but most of them were old and rotted, no one had freshly died in a while."

"So...there was this girl named-", he stops, "sorry, I can't say.  Anyway, she was the daughter of a landowner, the second richest man in the city.  She was beautiful.  I remember, looking forward to her skipping about, doing whatever the heck she was doing, with that sweet smile on her face."

He pauses.

"Well, one day she...died.  A rabid dog, they said, tore her face open.  She was buried, a real big ceremony, and was left in the graveyard I took care of..."

You put a hand on his shoulder.

"Kevin, I can guess what happens next.  There's no need to relive it."

He looks at you with relief and gratitude.

"Ok, boss.  If that's all, I'll be going."

That was...interesting.  Oh well.  On to the Masquerade.

Like I said, part two.

                                                                                                     

You rest, in your coffin, to get some rest before heading to your new objective.  You fall into a peaceful slumber...



Next Day


You wake up the next night, ready to go.  Exiting your castle quickly, you flit down south, out of the province entirely.  What seems to be forests and rural areas stretch on for miles and miles, until you reach the sea.  And there is Gulham port, trade city of the south.

You try to maintain a low profile, sneaking about, until you get the lay of the land.  Apparently, the port city is settled around the yeah, you guessed it, port, where a very large amount of trade goods goes to and fro.  Various inns, stores, and even a few farms litter the place, but fishing seems to be the primary food source of this small city. 

While lurking about, you see a fisherman, still plying his trade despite the sun being down.  You approach, stealthily.

"Hello, good sir."

He jumps back a bit, being surprised to see someone sneak behind him, but quickly composes himself.

"Whaddya want, sir?"

"Do you know of a local wealthy man named Will?"

He stares at you with a look of terror in his eyes.

"W-what's your business with him?  Whatever it is, I don't wanna get involved."

"Don't worry, you won't.  I just need to know where to find him."

"You don't find him, sir, he finds you.  I know where one of his men stays, but you've got to promise NEVER to mention my name."

"I promise."

The fisherman tells you that one of Will's lackeys, an arrogant enforcer by the name of Wallace, frequents the local brothel.  You head there.

Entering inside the seedy establishment, you spot the man immediately, with two women at his sides, laughing at his jokes.  He is a big man, but doesn't look very smart.  You go nearer. 

"Excuse me, Wallace, may I have your attention."

He glances at you, annoyed.

"Can't ya see I'm busy?  Go away, before I break your fingers."

"I have business with Will."

That gets his attention.  He stands up, politely excusing himself to the ladies, and walks you to a backroom. 

"Alright, what do you want with the boss?"

"I have something to tell him.  Would you please tell me where-".

"Look here.  No one just visits him, he comes to you.  Got it?"

"I really must conduct my business tonight."

"I ain't tellin ya, and if you make trouble, I'll bust your face in."

Such hollow threats, to a being like you.  What do you do?

                                                                                               

Yep, taking this step by step, sort of.

Alrighty then.

                                                                                                     

You need this man to know you mean business. 

"Arianne.  That's all I have to say. If you don't let me see your boss soon, your the one's who's going to be in trouble. Understand?"

He steps back a little bit, out of surprise. 

"How do you know about the boss' daughter?"

"That's for me to know, and for your boss to learn.  Where is he?"

"Right now?"

"Yes", you say, venomously.

"Inside the port.  He likes keeping track of everything from there."

"Good." you say, and leave. 



Later



You head to the port itself, and go into the largest building.  It is empty, but you can smell humans inside.  After a quick search, you find the trapdoor. 

Walking down the dusty stairs, you happen upon a smuggling operation.  Various illegal narcotics, substances and drinks abound, along with what appear to be ( fake ) gold coins.  They look up at you, and you see a few burly men shuffle out, knives and clubs in their hand.

"I have come to talk to Will."

"That would be me."

You turn to the right, and there he is.  A small man, not very strong obviously, but with a very intelligent and devious look about him.

"What is your business here, vampire?"

Great, another person with knowledge of the supernatural.  Well, here goes nothing.

"I am a friend of Arianne-"

"Friend?"

"Yes, an actual friend, not a customer.  She's in danger."

His face freezes, completely unwilling to show emotion. 

"What type of danger?"

"She is being held by Lord Jameson, in the province up north."

"That abusive buffoon?  I was hoping my daughter would have more sense than to sleep with the likes of him.  Why are you here?" he asks, cautiously.

"I have a plan to save her.  It involves werewolves-"

"What kind of rescue operation could involve those beasts?"

"I will explain later, just tell me to meet me in the forest.  I need you to incite a revolt in Lord Jameson's kingdom, but only when I give the signal." 

He thinks, pondering, and sees that whatever plan you have, with this amount of chaos, his daughter could indeed be "saved". 

"Fine.  I'll see what I can do.  If you fail, and my daughter dies or even gets hurt, I'll make sure to coat you in oil, tie you in place in front of a cross, and wait till you see the sun, understand?"

"Yes.  Oh, and now that I remember, have you ever met anyone named Francis?"

"Your maker?  Yes, he told me about you, just after your rebirth.  He still had no idea what to make of you.  I wonder if he would be proud today."

Wondering what relationship this crime lord and your maker could have had, you leave, and head to the forest just north of Gulham port.



Later



You wait for what seems like an hour, until you catch their scent.  Werewolves, a dozen of them, in human form, but still with that wet-dog odor.  They appear, shirtless, in front of you, wary and suspicious. 

What do you do?

                                                                                                 

Micelus, I'm guessing this part involves drawing Ben's dad out, or something, but after that, I still don't know what you're planning.
