(that makes about as much sense as a god of mucus or eyeball fluid),

A god of vitreous humour?  I'd worship him/her if it meant I'd have good eye health for my lifetime.

Not to be confused with normal gods of humor.

Or the humors of Hippocrates.

DF sets out a challenge to us with no explanation and no assistance, and each time we fail it becomes more merciless, but we continue in the hopes that we can show it, "See?  I'm doing good, right?  I kept the little men alive!  You're proud of me, right?"

Well maybe it's the concept of, PURGING the unclean blood. You have a dwarf god of blood. He wants to see the bloodshed of others because, those are unclean and inferior entities.

This is one of the reasons I like Ishtar (Sumerian version: Inanna). Ishtar is the Babylonian/Akkadian/Sumerian Venus, and she is the goddess of sexual love as well as warfare. Life and growth are unified with violence and death in Ishtar, whereas they're divided between, say, Mars and Aphrodite in the Roman pantheon (although the two do get together at least once). Read the epic of Gilgamesh: Ishtar wants Gilgamesh to be her husband or lover (I forget), but Gilgamesh refuses on the ground of all the other men who have been harmed by associating with her. So naturally Ishtar goes to her father and sics the Bull of Heaven on Gilgamesh. Awesome.

Unless you're suggesting that there are people who strongly believe that the crusades were in fact correct as per the teachings of Christ? I haven't seen that opinion anywhere, except among people who seek to use it to discredit Christianity as a whole.

There is at least one modern defender of the Crusades. Rodney Stark has taken up the role as a sort of cheerleader for historical Christianity. He's written an atrociously bad book about Christianity and science as well as "God's Battalions: The Case for the Crusades" (a critical review). Stark's case seems to be that the Crusades were justifiable self-defense by Christendom. Not sure how that reconciles with the "turn the other cheek" business.

Here's an example of Kali, goddess of time and change, and while not a god of blood, who be driven into frenzy and lust for bloodshed by those she vanquishes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali

Or you have the simplest example, though also fantasy but gives a good point.
Khorne
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Khorne
Of which who GAINS MORE POWER by all the acts and bloodshed created by his followers.
"Worship of Khorne is purely through bloodshed, either from one's enemies in victory or one's own through earnest struggle; it is said that any follower who allows a day to pass without contributing to this act of worship will incur Khorne's displeasure."
"Every act of violence gives Khorne power, whether committed by his followers or by enemies."

That would only apply if he was a god of dwarven blood. I don't see why he would be particularly partial otherwise.

Kali
Khorne
Those are respectively a god of destruction (and other things) and a god of bloodshed/hate.
The difference between a god of blood and a god of bloodshed seems to me like the difference between a god of food and a god of food fights.

I think that's what Vherid meant by "dwarf god". That's what I read it as, anyway.

Well, in the earlier editions of 40K, Khorne was a god of honorable warfare, and his followers were more like glory-seekers. They would travel, seeking the strongest opponent to fight, the most worthy army to join, and they even refused to kill civilians. But recently, the setting has gotten more GRIMDARK, so Khorne slowly became a god of mindless slaughter. But enough about that...

I've always seen the "Blood God" archetype as wanting their followers to spill the blood so that it returns to the blood god's plane of existence, so they can bestow it upon new life.

Huh, I had never heard that 40K used to be not GrimDark. Go figure.
