I post more than I play. If I waste my time, I don't care whether I do it playing DF or Wesnoth or just browsing the forums... it always makes me feel a bit lazy, although the last one is somewhat redeemable because of the social element.

I definately spend more time on the forum then playing, partially because the complexity of df drives me to find what new wonders/bugs/wtf's have been uncovered by other people.
Also theres still a bit of learning curve i haven't climbed over yet.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I'm waiting for the next release too. Meanwhile I've been doing some modding, and naturally reading the forums.

I've probably spent more time on the forums than playing- in part because I just enjoy the atmosphere and humor inherent to these forums, in part because reading about the experiences of others helps broaden my own experience with the game. Not just from bouncing ideas back and forth, but from seeing the game from somebody else's perspective- for example, I almost never farm, so it is interesting to me to read about farming intensive activities, and how that colors the rest of their play. Similar story with mechanics (with more hilarious results.)

When I am playing DF (as I am right now, as we speak) I tend to do nothing but DF for a month or two at a time- when I first started, I must have done three solid months of DF. Since I've seen most of the general features by now, I mostly start new fortresses when new versions come out or when I get a cool idea for a fort. And considering how complex DF is, there are still occasions where I am surprised by something that happened.

I definitely browse the forums much more than I play. I generally lapse out of DF until something new is introduced or some crazy idea pops into my head (lava landmines...).

I'm mostly waiting for the next release, and I'm willing to wait a while longer.

Yup, I'm another of the release people. I get the "new game addiction" every time a new update comes out, but alas, the infatuation usually dies after a week or two (as with all games) and I just browse the forums, making a nuisance of myself.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Like plenty of others, after the last fortress failed, I've just been waiting on the big update. It's been a while, and it's taken longer than expected, so it's been months since I last played.

Nice one, not sure when I'll be feeling like killing a baby but these things are good to know.
This is why we can't have nice things... someone will just wind up filling it with corpses.
