Webbed Cage Traps
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:41:11 pm »

I have been playing DF for a while, and I have read several references to webbed cage traps. How do you web a cage trap?

You have a giant cave spider spurt webbing all over your traps.

You can do this by having a wild GCS walled in with fortifications see a dwarf near your cage traps, or a tame GCS walled in with fortifications see an enemy.

1- How do you get the spider in that place to start shooting webs, and how do you get rid of it again to remove fortifications so the traps are "accessible" to enemies?
2- Do the cage traps have to stay there or can you pick them up and move them elsewhere and still have them be webbed?
3- How long does the webbing last?

1. Either lure the spider in or, if you have it captured, build its cage and release it. You should set it up so that the webbed cages are in a place where enemies would naturally walk over the cages.
2. The cages have to stay there, and dwarves can't path through, since webs are destroyed when tread upon.
3. Forever, but it only works once then you have to re-web.

Won't the spider scare away enemies (wild or not)? Plus if you have fortifications set around the cages, enemies won't walk on them, right?

Why wouldn't enemies walk between two sets of fortifications? They just act as projectile-permiable walls. In the diagram I provided the enemies would be travelling from the top to bottom, or bottom to top, through the cages.
