can someone roll for my turn please?
[5]You changed your employment notice into something more resembling positions of tutelage or apprenticeship, and now people are coming to you, hoping to learn the secrets of accounting. You estimated you will save 1f by letting some of the prospective students do unpaid work.
[6]The guard look at you with a scheming look. As if he is suggesting a bribe. Turns out the bribe he wanted is nowhere small: 1f.

"You want me to give you money to offer your king a service? Eh well I understand but the answer's no gentlemen. Good day to you."

Looks like the king (vagel) of this place was off-limits, seemed his guards had more power than him...Well a weak king had his advantages...
Anyway the business was starting to boom and soon money would be coming in and out of the bank, Mahi had even had his florins transported within the building himself to show that it was safe. Yes he would just have to let the traders and merchants and anyone else come in on their own times, but a few hints would be most welcomed.

Get the business working and get Jon and any other messengers to announce that the bank is open for business. Get additional funds from father to use for loans and such. Let's move on.

((I have the wrong sort of guards))

Prince Augustus da Lewangaria II looked over the reports of the last quarter and then looked at the map. He would need to expand, Telos looked like a good target.

Spend 20 florins starting a shipyard, hire a levy infantry regiment and send a spy to Telos. Invite Karesti to an audience.

[6]The messengers are unbelievably successful, everybody from the poorest middle class family to even the king got your announcement.
[2]Your father answered to you in a letter that you have to get it done yourself. After all, he started his first bank with nothing but 2 florins and the ambition.

((How was the update? First update I have ever done.))

((update pretty good. But I do believe it was mentioned Mahi's dad would provide florins for the business. To redeem florins and loans and such.))

Mahi was mulling over the recent letter from father...The same old crap about doing things yourself...Seemed like he would have to persuade the people's money out of their pockets and vaults himself.

"Selima, are our patrons enjoying their selves?"
"There all cramped in the entrance just waiting for you to open their accounts and take their money Mahi. Some probably want loans."
"Ah yes...Time for some magic to happen"

Mahi went to the entrance of his bank and greeted his new customers

"Hello people of this fair city, were I some fool I would bore you all with some long-winded speech about how great I am but I won't. We all no why we're all here; to get loan, to open accounts, and of course to redeem notes. Well lets get started shall we?"

Action- Get started with business. Open accounts (count how many we get. 1 florin is required for first deposit), receive money, receive loans, be payed debts to the bank, and redeem notes. We'll probably be like this for the next quarter. Also send messengers to invite people to open accounts. Offer some wine to customers.

[2] You can't find anyone willing to sell you a good-quality horse. [2] And the Guard happens to be quite vigilant right about now, so the horses are nigh-impossible to steal now. [5] What you can't seem to do with horses however, you do with the tailors, getting a very exquisite outfit freshly made. It costs two Florins however.

[4] Despite the lack of a horse, you make good time to the Talaca/Epicea border, arriving at a border inn on Talaca's side of it.

[6] Heading inside, you find that there a several very wealthy patrons here gambling. Unfortunately, they got the money by gambling. Worse, they call you over due to your fine clothes, thinking that you're a merchant or a low-ranked noble. And the really bad news? They're con-artists. Atleast you'll know they'll cheat. (The gamblers will get a +1 bonus due to them cheating)

(Curses!  So much for a low profile outfit...)

Roderigo sat down at the table, nodding to the other players as the dealer shuffled the cards.  He signalled to the waitress and called for... for... a bottle of their best red wine, and glasses to share it around with all his new friends.  That should do it.

Dear God, I look like some banker's second son.  Might be able to play into that - let's be generous and play the idiot for now.  Alright, let's take a look at them.  Frock coat, spectacles, lined wallet, monogrammed, handkerchief also monogrammed.  Banker.  Travel coat, but fashionable, boots suitable for riding, has a rapier - very fine scrollwork on the guard - and a feather in his hat.  Noble, probably can't use the sword.  Clothes a couple of seasons behind but still rich, ink stains on his fingers but solid, practical walking boots.  Wears a decent gold chain, guild mark on it.  Merchant, probably.

Roderigo received the bottle and poured a bit of wine into his own glass, then a fair amount more into the glasses for the other players.  He peeked at the hand he was given; weaker than Talaccan architecture.  And just those faint little creases on the edge of two of the cards, to boot.  He flicked his eye at the other players' hands, looking for similar marks on those cards.

Let's take a second look.  Frock coat is worn around the neck, wrists, enough that someone this concerned with his appearance would have fixed it by now.  Monogram on wallet different to monogram on handkerchief.  Not a banker, inherits others' possessions.  Pawnbroker?  Travel coat fashionable but mud-marked, same for boots - still traces where it's been inexpertly wiped away.  Rapier kept sharp and in good condition, but marks on edge of blade show where the sharpening stone's been used.  Warning!  Not a noble, possibly condottierri.  Does know how to use that thing.  Go for him first in a fight.  Not much out of place on the merchant, but - got it.  Shirt a little too loose, trousers short an inch.  If he travelled that much, he'd be damn sure to get comfortable clothes.  So, forger perhaps?  Would explain the ink.  Might just be part of the look.

Doesn't matter.  All of them are in this together, and the dealer's with them.  Not a game I can win honestly.  Cards are marked, not sure what all the marks mean.  They'll probably let me win the first two or three rounds to get my confidence up, so they'll fold even though they know I have weak hands - let me feel I can bluff.  Use the opportunity to palm the better cards, then.  Once I'm secure, they'll ramp up the bets and play harder, knowing I can't match them, either bank on me folding or showing and losing.  Play them at their own game, then - wait until the tipping point and then cheat the hell out of them.

Roderigo looked up from his hand and gave the honest, open smile of a true mark to his new friends.  Three equally honest, open smiles flashed back.

This must be what marks feel like...

Gamble using a mix of florins to start with and then moving to the hot jewellery.

Don't drink much wine myself, but keep plying my opponents with it.  Might be a touch expensive, but it's important to impair their judgement.  Act more drunk than I am.

Take the first few hands I'm likely "given", count cards and palm the best from my hand when I'm returning the hands to the deck.  When the game steps up, use the palmed cards to cheat, especially if I've worked out the card order by then.

If I'm lucky/duplicitous enough, take them for everything they have.  Then get a horse if one's available and don't stay the night.  In either case, head straight over the border to the next inn and walk/ride all night if I have to.  Wash my bloodied clothes when I'm there and get some sleep in a locked room with lockable windows.  Sleep with the axe under my pillow.

If it comes to a fight, go for the best armed first and then polish off the others.  I'm still technically in Talacca, so adding to my rap sheet probably doesn't hurt - I'm already due for a hanging no matter what.

[1]A 10 round all or nothing match. Guess how they got so rich that quickly. You're coerced into betting everything, and you know they'll want to win that much money.

[3][2][3] The alcohol does some effect on the forger and pawnbroker. The condotteri proves that he is a mercenary by being quite unfazed by it.

[5] You manage to decipher the markings on the cards, you'll know when they're cheating and you know what cards to palm. (+1 to Roderigo's Gambling rolls. Opponent cheating bonus disabled)

[5+1] vs [4] The first hands a slightly hard played, though you roll them due to your knowledge on their tactics.

[5+1] vs [2] It gets a lot easier on the next few hands, they're utterly stumped on how you're winning.

[1] (Bonus negated) vs [6] The last hands are completely rigged. In an attepmt to reverse said rigging they catch you cheating! It'll be a vicious fight because of such.

Roderigo: 3/3 HP, +1 for weapon training. +1 on first round for concealed weapon.

Scammers: 3/3 HP, +1 for Condotteri.

[2] vs [4] They catch you by surprise, jumping over the table to get at you. (Scammers get a +1 bonus for surprise attack. Bonus is only for the first round)

Round 1:

[6+2] vs [2+2] Despite them catching you off-guard, they never expected the hidden axeto come at them. In the resulting adrenaline rush Roderigo lops the head off the condotteri. (Scammers -1 HP, Lost Condotteri bonus)

[5+1] vs [1] Roderigo goes on a rampage, tearing both of the remaining scammers to large, fleshy chunks.

[4] No-one really minds that you offed these louts, apart from the innkeeper and that's over the amount of blood on the floor and the table. It'll cost about a florin to pay for the damages, and the inkeeper hasn't a qualm about taking money to stat quiet.

[1] Unfortunately in that fight, you hit the purses of the conmen and shattered the coins within, clothes are generally in the same condition. Whatever wealth they had is likey gone now. [5] On the bright side, All three had some nice horses outside, valued at about 9 florins altogether. It's not like they're going to be using them now.

[5] By some strange luck, you avoided damaging your clothes in that fight. There isn't even a scuffle on them.

Setup an ambush on the road and build fortifications on the border.

"I don't know how they do stuff in Morwood, but here in Lencil we never ambush anybody."
"That's not the full story, sir."
"Do you really have to follow me even to the battlefield?"
"Yes,yes I do. The full story is that an ambush is very unlikely in Lencil simply because of the lack of cover."

Move household troops to the border, advise Professional company to not perpare an ambush, and focus on fortifications.

Also, send request to Oriana for some horses. Preferably the best horses available.

Spend 20 florins starting a shipyard, hire a levy infantry regiment and send a spy to Telos. Invite Karesti to an audience.[/b]
You don't have 40, you only have something like 20. Rescinded orders that need money.

A spy went to Telos. [5] He succeeded in bringing back a good report. Telos is a federation of several coastal trading towns. [6]There is only 6 parcels of land, [2]and while you know that they are rich, unfortunately he couldn't bring back anything more than that. [1]These towns thrive on trading and have little resources on their own. [6]Its strength comes from enlightened rule by a noble's democracy, in which each town have equal say in the affairs in the federation. It even has their sovereign changed quarterly. [3]They do not have a large army [6]and you estimated its strength is at least 4 professional regiments.

Start up some sustained (meat) hunting to provide for the extra villagers, spending 7 florins on it. Start building a new town along the river within the forest for 8 florins.
[6]+7/10 Your men expanded the trapping operation to other game, hoping to increase catch. Your trappers did well in increasing food equivalent to 1 parcel of land, but they did too well; as you inspected the new traps, you got your foot in a very well made and concealed trap. You heard metals clanging and bones clashing, as your foot is crushed inside.
((If you continue like this, you'll probably be given the nickname of "the unfortunate".))
You are bed-ridden until winter, recuperating from your shattered foot. You cannot personally lead your troops, and revolt risk increases until you are well.
[1] Your new town operation failed for, again, collapsed buildings. Probably the same group of engineers are behind this.

Let Howard go scouting Carrera, but order the professional archers to prepare for a defense at the border with Carrera, and the carpenter to build some fortifications.

Scratch the old order, recruit two heavy nobles at 12f. Damn they're expensive.

2nd Noble Infantry, 3rd Noble Infantry recruited.
Setup an ambush on the road and build fortifications on the border.
Move household troops to the border, advise Professional company to not perpare an ambush, and focus on fortifications.

Also, send request to Oriana for some horses. Preferably the best horses available.

As said, your loan to Oriana comes in the form of a PiK. You can equip or pay upkeep of horses using that loan, at at most 5f/quarter. She ((ruled by GM)) just cannot produce anything more than that.

areyoua and Firelordsky please resolve your conflicting orders, or I'll decide it for you.

The thing with the winter revolts brought up a question in my mind, don't I have enough land to fit all the new peasants? It's not like Lencil can possibly be that overcrowded. I also think I'll just let Mr. Bard try to ambush someone on flat, open land he might succeed, and he might not be here next quarter.

Just to clear something up, I am going with my household troops to the border, right? And if not, I should be.

*sigh* okay, if we both cave, the orders still conflict.

Just follow my previous orders, i.e, build fortifications, no ambush.
