Ok...then a character will be spun up after I'm done with my report.

Edit: Would a son of a wealthy banking family be rejected?
Edit: Im trying for an Italian-Arabic theme with this character.

Name: Mahiveno des Karesti
Occupation: Banker, and scholar.
Age:27

Description: Mahiveno is one of the few sons of the great Geonto des Karesti, or as he was usually called "The Goldfarmer" (or Goldshitter when he wasn't around). He led a pampered life learning from the best and eating off the tables of some of the most renown men in the world...Course the they were usually asking money from his father but, he still had eaten with them. His interests are his books and old scrolls and would have rather read the histories rather than having to read through the loans and debts of a few noble families again.

Looks: He is not what you'd call the most comely or handsome man; you would'nt take him for some commoner but nor a rich man. He has short hair straight and groomed in the colour of black. His skin, like his countrymen, is also dark. He wears clothes of blacks and golds that are similar to the clothes of his home, usually a robe of of black with belts and rings of gold.

Misc:

  • His father and siblings have urged him to marry since he was fourteen. He's not have had someone had an offer in years thanks to a little show he put on for the last one...
  • Has three nearly constant companions, his pen and paper, and his childhood friend Selima; a servant girl Mahiveno had befriended in his childhood. Now an assistant to Mahiveno.
  • A personal guard (as in plural not single).
[3]

Spoiler: Mahiveno des Karesti (click to show/hide)
You live in Lewangaria.

- Build an Army
- Buy an Army
- Buy off an Army
- Buy off an Attack
- Bribe anyone
- etc...

Bonuses will vary between different actions. Bribes enough for vagrants are just a drop of water in the sea for industrial development, just for example.

p.s. Honestly, I don't know. Partly because I don't know where are you going to bring your realm to.

Spend 20 florins colonizing nearby uninhabited land, spend 7 florins recruiting capable sailors. Spend 20 florins investing in setting up a furring industry (For lack of better word to describe it).

Ah Lewangaria...a small city with a small people. They were light-skinned and blue-eyed compared to Mahiveno's brown and brown and probably did not speak the fair language or know its customs. But his father had assigned him here...Well more of "Get out and work or go live in the slums" than being assigned. To establish a bank here would take some time...Patrons, guards, clerks, messengers and all the rest.

He had some guards, his loyal Selima and some 10 florins.

He was at his desk reading through the laws and rules and histories of the land. He always loved the histories, especially when the history was so recent; a civil war in this little city? It was sometimes hard to believe. He had also written a letter a few hours ago...Where was it again? This drawer...that drawer...Ah here we go. Yes all done and ready to be delivered and with the gold-wax seal of des Karesti to.

"Selima could you go and bring this the messenger boy? Tell him to send it to the king of this city. I should have sent it when we first arrived here, but nothing can be done about that."

"I'll bring it to the boy. His names Jon you know"

"Like the brother of lady...what was her name...Tustin?"

Selima nodded and took the letter from her master's hand. She sent it off to Jon and he himself went to the residence of the king.

"Now, while that letter's being delivered we need to establish a bank here. Any idea where we could set up business Selima?"

"Well I saw that big old building when we got here"

"Ah the one that was burnt and broken. Its price has probably fallen because of that. Go send a runner to the owner of the house if you would Selima."

"Aye my lord Karesti."
Find the price of the building, buy it, clean up, furnish, and hire workers.Get the letter to the king. Best introduce yourself to the ruler, best to make them think they're important.

I'm thinking about that. Unfortunately this poor sketch is to show how poor our understanding in geography is  ;)

Isn't going to be hard and stressful to gm for three realms at the game start? I mean even with another main gm Iituem is still having troubles.

Oh and something on topic. If I were to be a prince would I have to do rolls and descriptions and such? seems vagel got it.

and when you say anything but a prince I can be anyone?
Exactly the opposite. Iituem got into trouble because people got immersed into things of minuscule proportions; the only thing on the grand stage on 314a was a claimant launching a challenge, resulting in a siege leading. Keeping the grand scheme interesting is more important imho.

And yes, as long as you keep yourself in the proportions of the game. I reserve every right to reject characters.

Potentially valid criticism, but the small scale is also where a lot of the characterisation can happen - although I fully expect much characterisation to develop here as well.

I got into trouble not so much because of focusing on the small scale but because of ineffective delegation - a major war erupting with the player King having a direct stake in the outcome meant that only I or a third King could do the rolls for it (and he went on holiday at this point).  By allowing anyone to become a sovereign and perform rolls in their own state, you should avoid that.

On the other hand, this is what I've been attempting since day 1, and from my mistakes I'd suggest you encourage your princes to be much more proactive about doing their rolls.  The reason I got bogged down is because whilst I did technically have a third King in place to do rolls it coincided with him taking a vacation, leaving me as the only one feasibly capable of doing many of the rolls.  Then, after implementing the fourth assistant GM figure, he got too timid about doing rolls because he was afraid of conflict of interests.

So I suppose my main advice from an arbitration standpoint is to make it clear to players when they don't have a conflict of interest so that they can pull off plenty of rolls.  It also helps if you're not busy IRL as well.   ;)

Edit:  More on topic, enjoying the posts/descriptions so far!  I'll stop spamming your thread with OOC chatter, though.

Updated map.

Contrary to what you might think, it is not to scale.

p.s. for a sense of scale of things in general, though, Lewangaria is the size of Singapore.

I just noticed this now, but it seems like we in Lencil have a hex of unexplored land in the NE. It's not a big deal, considering I don't know how much one hex is. Anyway, I'll move now.

"What do you mean we don't have access to the ocean?!"
"Well, sir, you forgot to mention it to the GM and-"
"Enough with your fancy language, Julian, this problem must be fixed, we do want a flourishing fish industry, don't we?"
"I think you overestimate the fishing capabilities of 7th century Italy... and the quality of fish."
"Well, water has other, more tangible benefits than delicious, succulent..."
"Sir, you're drooling."
"What? No, I'm not."
"No, but I did break you out of your reverie without using an anachronism, didn't I?
"Um, uh, yeah... Anyway, the benefits of having water is obviously seaborne trade, which we could use to our favor.
"How? We have a few trees and nothing else to trade with."
"That's of no import! Get out, stop asking questions, and deliver my commands!"
"I must say that perhaps you should have at least a few more-"
"Enough! The people in the streets don't complain about more than one thing at a time, and neither should I!"
Adviser Julian leaves, mumbling something about the mountains and the perils of delegation.

Disband the Useless Peasants in the Military

I mean seriously, is this the 15th century? No standing army for us!

20 Florins go towards expanding the empire towards the SE in order to get right up to the water, 20 more florins goes towards colonizing the land to the NE where we hope to find ore in them there mountains, and 17 go towards making Lencil a better place to live so as to attract migrants.

Just so I can have some subjects, and also because I feel that it must be said, I have to say that Lencil is the only place for horses. The rest of the princedoms all are lacking in the open land needed for horse ranching.
