My CPU fan died this morning and I dare not run it with that offline.
Good thing I have several PC's.
4. Investigate the pyramid structure and try to determine exactly what happened.
Turn 13
-------------
You are momentarily tempted to destroy the strange pyramid but curiosity wins out and you rumble over to examine it closely. You decide to be cautious, however, and run all investigations through the remaining X02. It examines the strange object closely, using its scanners to provide a complete internal and external picture. The thing has a very strange geometry inside, but does not appear to have any specific purpose that you can divine. It does have what looks like a standard connection port on one side, but the port isn't connected to any kind of circuitry that you recognize. The entire thing is made of iron and carbon separated out from the steel of the structural support you are on. Baffled, you instead examine the X02's event logs. You see when the order came to build this thing, just as you were shunted over and your logic array shut down. The databurst came from you apparently, with the correct authentication.
Aha! No wonder it makes no sense. This was a complex construction order and the X02 didn't know how to finish it. By the time it was done with the first part, you had regained control and halted all activity. It seems that the pyramid thing is incomplete, lacking two other components. The second components requires Yttrium of all things, as well as some aluminum. This seems to be some kind of energy emitter which would focus ambient light into a laser. Maybe a communication system or a weapon?
The final component is some kind of power supply you guess, and calls for a quantity of Promethium and some cobalt. Some kind of miniature nuclear pile to power the laser emitter. That means the pyramid is some kind of control interface most likely. Why did you have the X02 build this? You don't even know how to make weapons.... wait. You do. You have an entire datastore on weaponry. Most of it requires macroengineering, but several of them are adapted for nanoscale components. This laser is one of them, and it can be used as a communication tool or a deadly weapon depending on how it is focused. It does require some rare elements though... maybe that is why you didn't think of it before. You run a quick, hopeful scan of the area but detect none of the necessary elements for this weapon system.
You ponder on what to do next...
1. Go forth and explore the unknown!
2. Gather copper and steel and begin creating X01 nano-assemblers.
3. Design a better baseline nano-assembler.
4. Design an extended range sensor system.
You are currently in a small wiring duct atop a steel structural beam. There are copper wire bundles nearby coated in an insulating polymer within a PVC conduit. There is a pile of dust and debris nearby with usable carbon. Also nearby is a small complex pyramid structure.
