So, we're nanobots that aren't an nanoscale in terms of size?

I say, it seems you're right. But even then, we are still fairly in the range of stuff working differently due to the scale, I think.

(Wouldn't it be awesome to have Yoctobots? Robots on the scale of Yoctometers? (A yoctometre is an SI measure of length that is equal to 10-24 (yocto) of a metre. A yoctometer is equivalent to 1/100 of the diameter of an electron, and 1/100 000 the diameter of a proton or neutron.) Completely impossible as far as we know, but it would be interesting nonetheless.)

yes we are. 1000 nanometers is still pretty damn small.

1 micrometer, in other words, a nanometer being 1/1000 of a micrometer.
Micrometer is 1/1000 of a millimeter.

So, yes, we're pretty damn small, but we aren't the smallest things there can be.

Combine ourselves with a thousand other nanites, become microassembler, combine ourselves with a thousand microassembler, become miliassembler, continue until we're big enough to build planets.

We would become a milliassembler first, because we are 1 micrometer, not 1 nanometer.

We could be a meter long and still technically be a "nanobot" in the literal sense, although actually calling us that'd be ludicrous. "nano" refers to the scale of components. Our gears and transistors and wires and such are as small s one nanometer.

That's my point, Armok.

We are a nanobot, but as we are not actually 1 nanometer long, instead being 1 micrometer long, we would become a milliassembler if we combined with a thousand other same-sized nanites, not a microassembler.

Combine ourselves with a thousand other nanites, become microassembler, combine ourselves with a thousand microassembler, become miliassemble...

This scale assumes that we are 1 nanometer, but we are, in fact, 1 micrometer.

it dosnt matter HOW big we are, what matters is how big our COMPONENTS are.

So, we're nanobots that aren't an nanoscale in terms of size?
The scale, as others have said, refers to the internal components of the machine, not its external dimensions. You could have a 300 pound 3ft wide 'nanite' if it was made up entirely of nano-scale components. Nanite isn't even a word really, it was (as far as I know) coined in science fiction. BUT! It's what I'm using because this is a game, not an exercise in reality.

Code: [Select]
5. Analyze the 'dead' X02.
Turn 12 (Sorry for the delay, hurricane and such.)

------------

The functional X02, under your orders, drags the 'dead' one over to you (after circling the area three times trying to figure out what you meant) and runs a nanowire from its logic array to an input socket in your side. You didn't realize you had input sockets. Did you have these before? They're quite nice. You access the dead X02 through the wire and begin running through its logs. It seems that it received a sudden power spike through the attached lead while it was monitoring the signals passing through the copper bundle. It seems strange that the other X02 didn't get such a spike, as it was mon҉í͝͝t̛o̷rįng̴ ҉t̸h҉͠e͟ ̶ş̴a҉̸͘m͝ę͟ ͞oh͜ ̨̕go̶͠d̛ ҉̀w̷̷͘ha̶t́ ̵̶͘i͢s̵ ̕h̵̸͜a̶pp̀͡e͏n͠iń̶ǵ̷ ̵I ̧f͡҉̢e̶̕e̵l̕ s͠t͜͠r̶a҉̴̵n̸͡͝ģ̶͜e.͘

You disengage the link, momentarily staggered by whatever just happened. Several diagnostic routines have activated by themselves and your consciousness seems to have been shunted to the secondary processing array that the X02 built a while ago. Your primary logic array is undergoing a destructive shutdown and purging process initiated by an intrusion detection subroutine. With a spark and crackle, your primary logic array shuts down.

The still-active X02 runs in circles, panicked by this turn of events and unsure how to respond. After several seconds, it begins building a pyramid out of steel scraps.

You have no command access from the secondary array, but you're damn glad that it was built. You don't want to think about what would have happened had you been confined to the singular logic array at the time of the shutdown. Reviewing the event log, you see that something was transmitted to your datastores along with the assembler's logs and it began rewriting portions of your code before the intrusion software kicked in.

You're not really sure what to do now, and you're still working out a plan of action when your primary logic array reboots and your chassis runs through an automated startup sequence. Once it is finished, you once again expand to fill the entire processing capacity. You're a bit bewildered by all of this but otherwise seem unharmed. The remaining X02 has built a small steel pyramid and is standing next to it, looking bored. A wireless query to it indicates that it received authenticated orders to construct this small pyramid structure prior to the shutdown of your logic array, and the command was sent by you.

You have no logs of that command being sent.

What do you do now?

Code: [Select]
1. Go forth and explore the unknown!
2. Gather copper and steel and begin creating X01 nano-assemblers.
3. Design a better baseline nano-assembler.
4. Investigate the pyramid structure and try to determine exactly what happened.
