You are a Nanite - Turn 13
« on: August 18, 2011, 03:26:10 pm »

Welcome to Nanite, a multiple-choice suggestion game.

Each turn I will set out several choices. Once a few people select one of the choices and seem to be mostly in agreement, I will present the outcome and a new set of choices.

Turn 1

-

You are a robot approximately one thousand nanometers in length, known sometimes as a 'nanite'. You have a manipulation array capable of cutting and shaping small amounts of material. You have an array of locomotion digits which can function on a solid surface. You also have an extremely short ranged sensor capable of determining the composition of nearby objects. You are a marvel of engineering, packing an incredibly amount of technology into a miniscule space. You are, however, quite stupid. You have very simplistic programming and a few subroutines built into your processing matrix and logic engine, and the only thing you know how to build is yourself.

You are in a large open space. You rest upon a surface which is made a tough polymer which your sensors identify as a type of polyvinylchloride known as linoleum. Nearby is wall of gargantuan proportions which is not within your scanning range.

What do you do?

Code: [Select]
1. COMPOSITION_SCAN:[WALL]
2. EXCAVATION:[PVC_SURFACE]; SIFT/SORT PARAM:{USABLE_MATERIAL}
3. ENGAGE_LOCOMOTION; MOVEMENT PARAM:{RANDOM_SEARCH}
4. ACCESS_SCHEMATIC "NANO-ASSEMBLER X01"

Aha, so awesome! I nearly went into nanotech engineering! I'll be following this one with interest!

Does this nanite have less mass than an electron?

Anyway, 2.

“Well,” he said. “We’re in the Forgotten hunting grounds I take it. Your screams just woke them up early. Congratulations, Lyara.”
“Do something!” she whispered, trying to keep her sight on all of them at once.
Basileus clapped his hands once. The Forgotten took a step forward, attracted by the sound.
“There, I did something. I clapped. I like clapping,” he said. -The Investigator And The Case Of The Missing Brain.

You'll get several choices at each stage. And yes, getting smarter is possible.

Turn 2

Code: [Select]
2. EXCAVATION:[PVC_SURFACE]; SIFT/SORT PARAM:{USABLE_MATERIAL}
--

It turns out that the PVC surface is not very deep. Your manipulation array carves a furrow in it and piles the useless debris to the side, categorizing the organic materials as non-useful for any immediate application. Beneath the PVC surface your manipulator array finds material identified as concrete, a conglomerate of limestone and clay. Your sensory array detects traces of metallic compounds as well, likely impurities within the concrete and not of sufficient volume to collect. The concrete is not especially difficult to excavate as it is shot through with microfractures and natural empty spaces through which you can squeeze. Beneath the concrete you find a seemingly endless surface of steel along with some copper traces which extend in long twisted bundles wrapped in a different form of insulating polymer.

What will you do?

Code: [Select]
1. RUN EXTRACT/REFINE: [STEEL_SURFACE]
2. EXCAVATION:[PVC_COATING]; SIFT/SORT PARAM:{USABLE_MATERIAL}
3. ENGAGE_LOCOMOTION; MOVEMENT PARAM:{RANDOM_SEARCH}
4. ACCESS_SCHEMATIC "NANO-ASSEMBLER X01"
