Ideas for this Embark?
« on: August 17, 2011, 08:59:04 pm »

So I have found what is probably the best site.  Ever.  And I don't want to mess THIS one up.  So here is what I've found...

Imagine sparsely wooded grassland.. sloping gently up a large valley into tall imposing mountains.  Now make the mountains haunted.  Then add a spectacular 10Z waterfall at the head of the valley. Then put a large rocky lair high up above the valley and fill it with all sorts of zombies, trolls, frogs, troglodytes, you name it.  Then realize something else..

something in the caves has been killing off the zombies.. and you are definitely not alone.

I've attached some images..

Suggestions anyone?

UPDATE and FYI:

The World Gen Params are here, as well as the coordinates for the embark.  For all of you who INSIST on a save, I have a region folder I assembled.  Realize I had to embark here twice.. and it isn't the exact same as the previous one.  I stopped it earlier and was able to catch a few more goodies (look at the last spoiler).  I think it would be best to use the parameters and the coordinates because you can tweak those to maybe get a double bonus.  But.  Your call. If you guys still call out for a save after this I'll upload the file.

I think that's a cave, not a lair. That would explain the cavern creatures.

It's actually both.. I looked it up and found that it was the lair of some great beastie, and it somehow got connected to the caverns.  So now the beastie is loose in the caves, or the cave creatures are loose in the lair. Sorry for the confusion

Oh. My. God. Quickly! Enslave the beast and live in the caves fighting endlessly against hordes of the undead- No, live inside the waterfall venturing to the outside world only to battle the hellspawn long enough to gather resources- No, claim the plateau as your own and invite war from the elves goblins and humans and permit them to fall in droves to the traps and the undead and once their spirit has broken unleash the cave beast- Wait!

Stalin cancels gush, head exploded.

Or just upload the save to DFFD. :D

This is indeed a nice site.  What kind of metals are readily available at the surface?  I'm happy with my 8 Z waterfall and starting at war with both the elves and goblins, so I won't be messing with it, but I'm sure others will be interested in knowing.

Zepave Dawnhogs the Butterfly of Vales the Marsh Titan ... was taken out by a single novice axedwarf and his pet war kitten. Long Live Domas Etasastesh Adilloram, slayer of the snow butterfly!
Doesn't quite have the ring of heroics to it...
Mother: "...and after the evil snow butterfly was defeated, Domas and his kitten lived happily ever after!"

How big of an embark is this? (world tiles)
I stand by my previous recommendation of making a necromancer's tower, and add:
Recreate a medieval village on top of the plateau/hill/thing. Perfect setting, beast lair nearby and everything.
If you wanted to, you could create another village (or just a keep) nearby with unwanted migrants - less defended, of course.
Or offer the migrants as sacrifices to the cave beast.
Or offer children as sacrifices to the cave beast.
Or offer nobles as sacrifices to the cave beast.
